Re: Time attack at AMP on 6-29
I might come out to run the late session only this time.

Can't run the 3rd gen - no roll bar.

Funny, just reading in HotRod about a flying mile event and anyone exceeding 135mph in a car needs a roll bar, but a guy on a bike did 272mph with just glass fairings.
Really doesn't make sense, its not like a roll cage could not be built for a bike.

We have three, if we can get one more maybe we can run at the same time and have a video with only third gens on the track.
Last night finished the new hub, spindle and brake package on the car and bedded-in the pads to the new Z06 rotors.

What brake upgrade are you going to do. The track is very small and only has a couple of braking areas, Pablo is running stock size fronts and drum rear brakes.

Yep, I didn't even come close to getting into brake fade. Stock brakes with Dot 4 fluid.

My only complaint is the factory prop valve has way too much fwd bias

Whats Up Jerry? Haven't seen you in a couple of years. I'm going with the LS1 fronts, but aside from needing to find a machine shop to turn down some hubs, I still haven't received my brackets. I did get my struts/shocks today, so those will be on.

Are you going to mod the hubs and spindles that are on your car or do you have a second set, I have the mill, lathe and press setup to do them.

Inspired by Mr. Meyer I decided to tear the brakes down to the spindles just to check things out and repack the bearings with a little Amsoil. So… Now we are sporting a fresh pair of rotors, PBR pads, bearings, and seals. Be careful what you go looking for because you just might find it Whoops! Check your brakes people…

Everything is conspiring against me going tomorrow.

I had my wallet stolen in LA yesterday (amazingly got it back minus the cash, still had to cancel my cards)

Got wheels for the car but my buddy has not come through with the victoracers.

And tonight while doing some susp adjustments I notice oil coming from the left rear drum. Thinking that it's impossible my brand new wheel cyl is leaking, I pull it apart to find that the axle seal **** the bed and my left rear brake is covered in oil (no wonder I was locking up the fronts so easily).

Throw this on top of some piece of **** background check company trying to screw me out of a new job because they botched my info... I'm not having a good week.

Re: Time attack at AMP on 6-29
Once we lfet the parking lot and I got up to about 40mph on the street tires I realized I wasted mt steering box bigtime. My Steering wheel was clunking back and forth in my hands driving down the road. Tom followed me as I milked it home in the slow lane. I thoughly checked it out much better when I got home and it is just completely shot. Thats why it was locking out on me in the first sharp left hairpin under hard braking, I could not get the truck to turn left at all until I slowed and settled the strain on the box-22 years of owning it and the dam steering box finally went from the Hoosier slicks.

Nick and I had a great time. Congrats Jerry on the fast times. I heard you were in the 50.xx range

Yes, very happy with a 50.52 and a 50.36 on the last run. With some more camber, i think it will get into the 49s. I had 2 1/4 degrees of camber and 41 psi in both fronts and looking at the tires today all the tread ware is from the center out, the inside looks like new. Time to make longer a-arms or cut the strut towers or maybe both.

Re: Time attack at AMP on 6-29
Great time last night! New personal best but still nowhere near what I the car has in it. The 10 yr old tires I’m rocking just aren’t cutting it…

Special thanks to Jerry for helping me with the axle swap/repair & track set up. Congratulations on putting down some wicked fast lap times. I have a feeling those boys are going to be talking about that red Camaro and Full Size on slicks for weeks to come

Thanks to everyone that took the time to come out and support the club last night Dean, Nick, Raul, Vince, and Tom. I have a ton of video to get though but I’ll throw a highlight reel together in the meantime.

We don’t just sit behind a keyboard talking about racing guys, we do it. Everyone is welcome to come out and race or just hangout and watch. There is a wealth of information available to you so come on out and take advantage of it.

This is what it’s all about… a group of guys hanging out on a Tuesday night doing what they love

50.xx!!!!!! That is flying! What was the reaction from the import crowd? Ill bet they were picking their jaws up off the floor. Were you on r compound tires? I'm just blown away by that time, last time there the fully prepped miatas ran a few 48s, for a big thirdgen to get down there is really something.

No, i wish i had r compound tires. The tires on my car are Kumho Ecsta XS 275-40-17 on 9.5 wide wheels front and rear.

I suspect an aprox 3 sec drop on autox R compound rubber. Thats amazing compared to the little miata's considering we do not fit through some of the tire barrrier transitions and the chcanes like they do. We have to turn through some of them the Miata's go straight through.

I need to call Lee boxes tomorrow and find out what they can recommend me for a box on the truck. I had my hands full on that tight track with overlapping hands. I also broke one of my shock mounts on the RF- Might have been Nicks little off road excursion breifly through that back tire obsticle jont, There was a good rut just off the edge of the road their he hit that jarred us pretty good. Both inside tire sidewalls are marred from lockout against the swaybar- I am just too long a wheelbase for those tight hairpins, I have a terrible turn radius.

My gearing could not have been any better- I had plenty of power whereever I needed even though I was down on the multiport injection and had to resort to the TB- I was down about 40-50hp but even with a passenger I did not have any issue with HP. Now on the other hand, the bottle of Rainx rolling around under my pedals on the first run from under the seat really made things interesting.

I really enjoy us as a group as Mike has stated. It is nice to be associated with such a class act of friends all having fun and doing what we love.

And Jerry, Thank you again for the electrical tape. SDometimes even the little things can turn big deals if not prepared. Cracks me up though, they wanted my terminal posts taped in case the hood smashed into them and arched- even after I showed and explained to them it was a fiberglass hood. The course is remarkably much safer than appears- really a nice fun venue.

ps- Also, the Hoosiers do not even show any signes of wear. My tire temps never got above 152* on the pyro which is still cold. We get them into 220-240 range all the time at Toyota speedway in about 10 laps (5 miles). This 2.5 miles and lower speeds is just not enough to heat them and get them sticky. I was spinning them too easy from being cold. Mosty of the readings were around 135 to 140 range with the LR at 150s from spinning and turning rights mainly. I could run these tires another 100-150 laps I would bet before they wearout- unbelievable for a 4800 lb truck.

Re: Time attack at AMP on 6-29
My new best was 54.19. With a decent tire and going back to 295’s out back I know there’s low 52’s in the car. We ran 2* of negative camber, backed out all of the rear shocks, and about a turn and a half up front. The car felt 10 times better but due to traction issues didn’t shave off significant time.

I was watching the footage from last night and all I can say is Jerry’s car is wicked sticky in the corners. I’m seriously going to take him up on his offer to borrow his tires for a session. As far as what the import boys were saying… Let’s just say that were hella curious about the big heavy American Iron

Funny thinking.... I could have stuffed that little stripped down 1800lb Miata in my truck bed and still ran probably a 60-65 sec lap. Nick actually mention that prior to us running. I think I had the whole place syked out they actually sent me out my first run with the Miata's- they didn't know what to expect which puzzled me- I'm 6.2 feet wide and 18 feet long. Those Miata's are 4.8 feet wide and 11 feet long.

I gotta see the videos- waiting unpatiently

I do not know what my final times were. I heard from Mike I was in the 53 sec range my last lap. I let Nick drive it the second run so I ran #1 and #3 sessions. One of the Miata guys said from the staging area it looked like I was getting airbourne through turn 3-4.

Re: Time attack at AMP on 6-29
I just got off the phone with Tom Lee. There is not alot of options for my truck in regards to steering upgrades. I have one option for a 9:1 box but that is crazy twitchy especially with my tiny 13.5" Momo steering wheel.

Tom says the factory box in my truck is a 16-13:1 progressive ratio. He has nothing in the range of 12:1 so he is revalving a 14:1 with more assit and setting me up with a 1.5 quickener to get me in a better ratio since I have the adjustable intermediate shaft. I already have a HD later model pump so we think that will flow properly to supply the box with the added fluid flow needed. I basically asked him to just please build something for it as if it was your vehicle- I am trusting his advice since I do not have much esperience with this stuff and have never studied calculating such ratio changes and pressure changes. Its all a foreign language to me. We both agreed a 12:1 range would be best suited for my needs (after a 5 min conversation of what I do with this "truck" He laughed as he gave me a visual he had in his head with one of my tires off the side of the road on Adams while the other side was off the other direction also- yeah, it was a little tight I acnowledged). I told him I did not really understand his terminology but respect his knowledge and please get me close to 12:1 with the pressure about what it is stock right now. I have always like the power effort the truck has stock, just need quicker ratio so I do not hand over hand it severly like last night.

Re: Time attack at AMP on 6-29
(Laughing Histerically)

We respectfully tore that place up. Full sized cars- full weight cars, cars that drove in and drove out, not some stripped down frankenstien Miata or other import with no hood, no interior, no dash, no lights of any sorts, proper autox tires with low steel belts so they heat up to operating temp in one lap, and narrow to fit through places we had to slow down and turn through.

Guys, we can hold our chins high- we made one hell of a statement for full sized American Iron on a tight little Go Kart track- Cars and drivers. I guarantee we will be missed next week if we do not show. Word will spread and the crowds will grow. I need to check with my NASCAR connections and see what we can do about more tires for everyone. You guys need to find some 15x7 RS wheels and I will get you some "decent" used Hoosier SX 27.0 x8.0x15 for free. I get alot of race old tires with lots of life left on them. Generally these tires will see about 80 laps total when they can run about 250 laps. The teams will change them for new ones only because rules allow a certtain # of new rubber a year and each race you can get at least 2 fresh tires in the bank- they often take of 1 race old tires just because they have the money and alotment within rules to do so. Those tires I ran were less than 6 months old from manufacturer date and were on used in one race (40 laps) They are harder compounds than autox "R" tires so they are harder to get heat into them, but will still work better than any of your street tires for no cost to any of us.

I talked to Mike abouit it already, anyone else let me know an I will see what I can come up with. Sometimes it might take me a few races to get a good decent matching set in the correct diameters (These tires vary in diameter by sometimes up to 2" based on what staggers the teams run and what PSI their setups are going after.- 1psi is usually goo for about 0.1 growth in circumfrance so a two tires not matched can have different diameters at the same psi whcih would make the larger tire drive the car loose on that side coming off a corner and generally tighten the car going in on that side. Sponsor money is tight this year, thats why my team is not running as well as alot of others this year- so bare with me, I can try my best and ask around.

Re: Time attack at AMP on 6-29
Believe me when I say that I’m going to be cruising craigslist, Recycler, and eBay looking for some 15x7/8’s to mount those Hoosiers on. Horsepower is always going to be an issue until I address it but I just love my gently used (375,000mi) LO3. I was right there with a couple of the ‘fast’ Miatas that were in the mid to low 50’s. Their 1800lbs vs. my 4000lbs, their 100HP vs. my 160HP, and their Falken Aznis motorsport compounds vs. my crispy 10 year old Goodyear Eagle F1’s. So with a sticky set of Hoosiers under me I’m more than confident that I would be able to shave a few seconds off

How come the video says on the last run where we all three run together that Jerry got a 53.50. Is that right? I thought he was down at 50.36 that run and we had a 53.36? Did we squeek past Jerry that session?

Felicity must have called it wrong by accident, Nick and I distinctly hear the announcer call our time as just 53 and Felicity repeats that as 53 and then when Jerry comes around you can not hear the announcer but Felicity says 53.50- not a big deal. Maybe the annoucer was wrong and she simply repeated his mistake. I even posted I thought the times where what they are, its just the video said otherwise and I was puzzled hearing that.

Lee is working on the new steering box, should be here Monday or Tuesday. I know I can shave another second easy off my time from that alone, The steering wheel kept locking on me and the car would not turn left- that sharp left hairpin killed me each time- takes me an eternity in the video to get around it each time and I come out very wide each time and slow even after going in slow. Fortunately they make a 12:1 for me so I can get rid of this 13:1-16:1 variable box.
