just curious as to what everyone does as far as making money?

currently im just detailing and washing cars here and there..only 18 and starting college in october and they get me a job so thatll be good..as for now, pretty much everything i make goes into my car and the rest goes towards my phone and insurance bills.

 

I'll be 19 in a month...

Work for a large bank here in the Southeast as a IT Technician. Currently studying for my Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Certification.

Just pay as I go. Suspension overhaul at the moment, waiting for KYB to get my shocks here.

 

Credit card. lol Its a terrible way to mod your car. I work at In n Out. Since your starting school it would be a good job to get. Decent pay and a flexible schedule. I just graduated from CSUN so I'm looking for a career now.

 

i fund it with a bachelors, a masters and an M.D. degree... >=)

even now, i never use credit cards, i only use debit or cash.. i too pay as i go..

 

I run heavy equipment during the day to make ends meet and DJ weddings on the weekends to pay for the IROC restoration. I end up bringing home $200-$250 a night doing the weddings, but it isn't steady work so it takes forever to save up enough to do the major stuff. The other bad part is that if I have a major unplanned expense come up household wise, the Camaro money is the first to go.

 

haha i see i see..im hoping to be able to a put chunk away each month for stuff for the trans am..

as far a credit card, all i hear is bad things but i figured it like this..
if i keep it at $500 limit, i can only get myself into $500 of trouble..and ill just pay it off after every month..and between the detailing and the job the college gets me (FIDM) ill have more than enough to pay off the $500 a month..however, i dont think ill necessarily need to spend $500 EACH month..

I was Manager at a high end restaurant, in the rich part of town. I was getting 13.50 an hour. then working 15 hour days got me over time. then on top of that i would take tables b.c the servers didn't want to take table, or show up for their shift so I had to step in, i was there anyways so why not make a bit extra money. got money quick and since i was working 6days a week i didnt hae time to spend it. then i would just go all out spend on the mods i needed (by needed i mean the mod i wanted to do that month that would sit in my room till i had time to put everything on. then i lost that job. and i had to pay for rent and life with no job so my money vanished..... now im a cook at a resturant getting 14 an hour with a supozidly 40 hour week when in reality in at 28 hours a week.I need a new job....

 

Trips to Afghanistan!

 

Leave for work @ 4 AM, get home around 7 PM.

I never use credit cards, pay for everything with cash, check, or debit. Oh yeah, I'm 32 and single too, so that frees up more cash than any job a person could have.

I'm a pilot, but this isn't the 1960's, I make a very average wage.

I check Ebay for completed listings (82-92 Camaros) and see what items are hot. Then, when I visit the salvage yards, I buy those parts and flip them for a profit. The money earned goes to Paypal and in turn, I buy parts - paying with Paypal - or I have some money sent to my bank so that I can pay for things cash if from a Craigslist ad.

 

picked up my car 9years ago, started out by paying for parts with a little from each pay check. pay as i go...

then made a choice to return back to school, became an electrician. i do use a credit card but i also pay it off at the end of each month. interest is free as long as it gets paid at the end of the month. i drive a honda civic to save my self from a new truck payment. most of my friends and co-workers drive newer trucks. i try to live within my means and theres always some extra cash to spend on my car each spring. i thought of selling my car years ago when i was an apprentice living on my own but got through it and still have the car! now that im a member i can do most of the work myself with research this saves so much money, at times i feel its almost free.

education is very important!

 

To the OP. Anyway I can. Mow lawns, wash cars, sell stuff. I'm 17, I turn 18 in march and I start college in spring.

 

Its decent, nothing really to write home about lol. About $15 an hour, 44 hour weeks so I really can't complain. This will hold me over until I start my training for HVAC fabrication/installation. That's where the real money will be made!

 

trips to Iraq!! haha that got me going now the GI bill pays for my mods.. lol

 

I turn wenches on other peoples stuff. Went to college for my associates degree in heavy equipment and diesel technology. Wife gets my real paycheck from being a property management specialist.

Just graduated earlier this year with a degree in Marine Engineering. I"m a merchant marine now. Work on large ships like tankers, cargo carriers, cruise ships, anything that floats basically. Started the tear down of my Iroc before I left almost a month ago and will begin once i get home. Being on a ship majority of the time, all money earned isnt spent so its all waiting for me when i get off.

 

A Bachelor's Degree in Business and now hustling in the business development center at Nissan of Downtown LA. Cash money no plastic, if I can't afford it I keep saving up.....

 

Oil refinery work...also pay as I go.

I'm 19 here, be 20 in February. Going to college for a double major in business administration and marketing. Looking to get into the automotive advertising field. I'm a full time student and work at Home Depot about 30 hours a week. Only make 9 an hour :/
I also paint for people on the side, and do various stuff for peoples cars.
I also pay as I go.

 

in the airforce TSgt and have spent including the trip im on now 3 years deployed its better when I was single and my account didnt get touched I dont have any credit cards

ALSO i do side work on cars and trucks and powdercoating wife knows what money is made in the garage stays there if I want so far its just built up alot of tools and my last build and most parts for my new build

I sold old car part, use the part time job money and the California Lottery help me build my car. I dont use my full time job. That takes car of the house hold bills.

 

I work at a body shop 40 hrs a week. typical 8-5. but I am learnin' and earnin' so pay blows 8/hr. Going to get raise soon or leave that bullshit. I can earn more working at a grocery store (i was working at one on Night Crew getting 8.50/hr but I was a dumb *** and got all pissed at my new boss and quit)

 

I work at a convience store, went to school but no one locallys hiring in my field. Usually I scour craigslist or get lucky at junkyards with parts, but my rent just doubled so idk whats next, probably on of the birds has got to go.

 

u know me mikey, degree in computer graphics and enjoy my job...i also pay as i go no credit cards involved, now if i want to spend big money for big jobs like for engine swaps,paintjobs,body etc. i hav this idea as "making a payment" get around 2-300$ and save it. pretend its lost money and keep making those "Payments" till you reach your goal needed...it sounds cheesy but thats how i got my 64 deville lol

 

Honestly, I'd focus on your education rather than the car. You're only 18 and have your whole life ahead of you. Get into a field that will be in demand when you graduate. We're only talking 4-5 years. After you graduate, get on your feet financially, then have fun with the car.

 

Did 5 years in the USMC in aviation. Airframes, hydraulics, composites. Best thing I ever did.
I have no degree but have easily earned more than most people with degrees (outside of the hard sciences) in the 5 years I have been out of the military. Plus you work on some pretty neat equipment.
The icing on the cake is that now that I decided to go to school, the GI bill pays 100% of my tuition, books (usually), and I get a living stipend. You can't beat that.

So I always tell young guys to consider the military (esp. aviation) but only if they have an interest in serving their country and wearing the uniform with pride first and foremost. People looking to just serve themselves shouldn't bother. If you are smart and you put this experience to good use you will always have a job that pays well.

And having worked with many people with degrees I can tell you if you get a degree outside of the hard sciences you are wasting your time and money 99% of the time. Seriously. Imho, learning a trade is more valuable.

 

I work in a car wash, I'm in charge of making sure the machine works good and without any problems and then close and open the next day

I work usually 3-4 days but I make more then my 40hrs + a week

 

See people don't even know how studious third gen owner are, college educated, hard workers, responsible, dedicated, crafty, intelligent. There goes the stereotype > thugs,druggies, bums, lazy, drop outs, trailer trash, that some people believe are the type of people that own these cars. Very proud to be a part of a forum where you guys are great kids.

 

Not sure. Every now and then someone drops a few grand off at my front porch. I don't ask questions.

 

I'm a teacher, so I'm not rich, but I don't have a car payment on any of my cars (all old cars ) so I can justify spending money to make the camaro a car I can enjoy driving

I'm aiming to go to Baylor to study Cardiology. My hopes are that one day I'll be a cardiac surgeon (that is a heart surgeon for those of us who are trailer trash ).

 

Couldnt have said it better. Everyone seems to think a camaro owner is a ******* and thier car is beat to sh*t. So little do they know, there are people in the world who actually enjoy thier cars.
