These are the lifters from the 305. 2 of them have a ring like scuff but you can't feel it with your finger nail or anything like that. They look good. What do you guys think?

If it were me I'd replace them, but I know you're trying to save money. What does your engine builder say?

It's hard to see in the pictures, but I think the rollers should be hardened. It looks like some of the rollers might be worn down to "parent metal." If there is evidence of wear, replace them.
If your not sure, take them to a machine shop or engine builder and ask his opinion.

Gotta throw another $.02 in here.
Dwayne, you're gonna install a brand new cam in a fresh 383 street/strip engine, so why even consider using 305 lifters with over 100K on them?

DITTO. Roller lifters last a long time and are fine as long as they have no notchiness when the roller rotates or any signs of excess wear on the where they ride in the bore.
You don't necessarily have to use factory GM lifers. Elgin's are good quality (pt #HL-2148S)and I think they are $7-8 each. Check that price against the club deal from GM though.

I was looking at the Comp Cam part# 1302-16 for $245.
I like the $ of these Elgins. $8 for hyd roller lifters is $128. 1/2 the other $.
I guess I need to start looking around more for lifters.
Any suggestions!

did you check to see how much the factory GM ones are with the club discount? Sometimes co's buy from the factory and mark the parts up 50-100%.
always good to let your fingers do the walking

BTW.....if I can find a set, I'll email you. I may even have a set at home in my garage boxes (still unpacking from moving 3 months ago).

I checked our deal at Valencia for the lifters and cam.
The lifters were more then Jegs wants for the Comp cam ones.
No real deal there.
Yeah yeah check the garage!

If you were strapped for cash, sure go ahead and reuse them. With used parts though you are always taking a chance they are going to wear out soon (like the spring inside breaking or the needle bearings finally saying "I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS!") and then you go back in the motor.

Lifters are about as close to the center of the motors as you can get.
I'd hate to have the "could be weak lifter worries" when I'm going all out.
Tell me more about these Elgin lifters. I can do 8 frog skins a pop.
New HR lifters for under $150?
