Have I twisted my body?

I got the PowerTrax locking rear diff from Spohn when he was running his group purchase. After installing that, I noticed the *** end would shift to one side when I accelerated, of course WOT.

I found that my trans mount was torn so I changed it. No more shifting from side to side.

Well now it's back. I checked the trans mount again, but it wasn't broke, and I had it out to check it.

I noticed that the RR of the car was sitting lower then the LR. So I went around and measured all the wheel wells. The RR was 1/2" lower. The LF was 1/4" higher, but I figured the rear springs were shot an it was lifting do to the RR spring.

I changed the rear springs, and guess what. The rear axle still moves around, AND the RR still sits about 3/8" lower.

Can the rear LCA bushings, as well as the panhard arm bushings cause this? I would think not, but maybe?
I have t-tops, and have been meaning to get SFC's before I do my motor swap, but I didn't think the torque of the 305 would cause this. WTF?

I've attempted to change the LCA bushings to see if that helps, but I need to wait until I'm not so tired. (tried it at 11pm )

I'll let you know if it works, or helps, or whatever. I'm sure it'll help with the axle moving, but I don't see how it's gonna raise the RR back up.

Has anyone noticed the RR of their car sitting lower?

AJ

I doubt the 305 has enough torque to tweak the body, BUT, if you or anybody before you jacked up the car on one side enough they could have tweaked it that way. I know I did, it tweaked itself back but for a little while, my alignment was actually off a bit (noticeably). The only way to really tell would be to get the car to a body shop and have them put it up on a frame puller and check out the alignment of the body.

I had the same problem with my 89 iros, bought it from some bi*ch and you could push on the drivers side rear of the car and it would move from side to side like 2 inches, Looked it over and found that the blot that hold on the panhard bard had become loose i don't know how long ago and had worn out the hole in which they went through. I had to take off the panhard bar get some grade 8 bolts and washers the same size as the hole, put a washer on each sid of the froam where the panhard bar connects 4 total, then put the bolts through and have someone push the rear end of the car where it is supposed to be and tighten the bolts up, then tac weld the washers to the frame, only tac the at this time so you don't fry the bushings in the panhard bar, then take th bolts back out and remove the bar and finish welding the washers to the frame, when you done put the bar back in along with the grade 8 bolts and a lock washer on each side and wala, your done.

Powertrax rear sitting crooked

AJ-
Am wondering if you resolved this problem. Is it possible the drivers side rear spring got cocked while the rear end was hanging down during powertrax installation? This might make one side sit lower, but that still doesn't explain the rear-end shift under hard acceleration, though.

I have the powertrax unit and have reefed on it more than a few times so far, but have not had the trouble.

I had however, replaced TA and panhard bushings and trans mount, new Hotchkis trailing arms, Intrax springs and hellwig sways at the same time.

I'mm right in the middle of a 305tbi to 350tbi (vortec) switch right now, so my lack of traction trouble may change

If you found a cause, please let me know-

Thanks,
S-D

My frame was bent and it sat all cockeyed. The previous owner had run off the road and hooked a culvert. The right front sat about 2 1/2" higher than everything else. After a week on the frame machine and $1000 it sits perfect now. Hope this is not what is wrong with yours.

eh, mine sits level all the time, but under hard accelleration you can feel the car jolt to the side and snap back in line, i think thats just cuz of **** bushings i the lca's and sway bar...
