Upper strut mount bushing? What is this and where can I get it?

I am not sure what this bushing is called, but I noticed on my car today when I had the strut unbolted from the strut tower that there is a rubber busing inside the strut tower plate. Mine is torn and looks like its in bad shape, and I am thinking this is a reason my car wont hold an alignment very well. What is this called and where can I get another one? Do I have to replace the entire strut tower plate?

I've never seen just that inner bushing for sale anywhere. As far as I know, you have to replace the entire upper strut mount as its probably integrated with it. You can find replacements at rockauto.com. They've got some great deals and sell quality brands like Moog. Use this code and get 5% off: 10721.

Would it be possible to replace the entire strut mount plate with just a flate plate with the proper holes drilled? With no bushing? Would it handle better? If it will work I can get a pair of plates fabbed up pretty easy.

My pass. side bushing is wasted and I need to replace it. Where do I get one? I did a search and got nothing I could use. I need one now. Should I just go to the junk yard and grab a whole upper mounting plate or can you buy just the bushing/ring thing?

Spohn now provides both type of retainers, I believe.
