Panhard Rod Question....
What exactly does the panhard bar do besides keeping the rear end centered under the car during turning?? Does it have any effect when running the 1/4 mile since you're only going straight and not turning??

As you said, it keeps the rear end centered regardless if turning or going straight. I wouldn't consider removing it for drag racing. Lon

I wasn't considering removing it. The thing is, my stock panhard bar is bent pretty bad in two places and I'm contemplating whether to get an aftermarket one or just get the extra stock one off my friend since it's completely straight. I think I might start with the stock one with new poly bushings and if it ends up bent then I'll buy an aftermarket one.

The panhard bar helps keep the car (axle) centered from side to side when you floor the gas pedal, which helps improve traction and gets you a quicker launch. You really don't feel the difference on a straight launch, but its there.
Come out of a tight turn and stomp on the gas and you will understand what I mean.

the advantage is if the rear is offset to one side, you can center it. you ever notice how your car corners better on direction as compared to the other way? that would be because the rear is offset to one side. center the rear and it will corner equally.

If your car is stock height and your rear was out of alignment then your factory stamped steel panhard rod is bent or otherwise warped. An aftermarket non-adjustable panhard rod can be used if keeping the car stock height. If you wish to lower your car. Either now or in the future than a more expensive adjustable rod is needed. TRUTH.
