Changing Rotors???
OK, it's that time....need new rotors!
Mechanically, I know how to do the job, but are there any tips or helpful hints to help me out...or maybe help me avoid problems?
This is the first time doing this on my Iroc,
...these are the front rotors on my 89 l98...no 1le
Thanks

well....always clean the rotors up when you get them. I've gotten some out of the box that were just plain filthy. The bearing races would of been eaten up in a week with the amount of dirt that was in them.
the calipers usually require a good deal of positioning before you can get them reinstalled. Clean the bearings thoroughly and check for any discoloration, galling, etc. of course pack them with grease before you reinstall them, pack the inside of the bearing and spindle with grease too. and be carefull when you set your bearing pre-load. even though i'm a mechanic...i always screw that up the first time. some reason i always get them too tight, then take it for a test drive, come back and the wheels will almost burn your hands to the touch. thats about the best way i know to tell if you got too much pre load, the temperature of the wheels.
But now would be a good time to check your brake hoses. the ones on my daily driver rs were crack ALL the way around, the inner sleeve was completly exposed.
other than that....take your time. expect to take about 2 hours longer than you think it will take you.

you can get a pretty good aproximation of correct bearing
preload by using a torque wrench and tightening the castle
nut to aprox 12ftlbs while spinning the disk.
replace the pins, orings, and spacer on the caliper
lube the pins orings and spacer with a good grease
make sure the caliper is "clear" of the spindle
at least .005 inch between any point on the body
of the caliper and the spindle (use a feeler gauge).
If the caliper is in contact use a file to get the necessary
clearance.
add lube to the top and bottom of the caliper
near where the caliper is close to the spindle.
Make sure your brake fluid looks like "Miller Light"
(no fizz) not like Guiness
Have fun..
