Brake Question-how low is pedal supposed to go??
This has been a relatively ongoing problem with this car as far back as i can remember. New brake pads or not, its been this way for a long time. It just seems that the brake pedal likes to go down pretty far(not all the way to the floor but approaching questionable limits) to stop the car. The brakes pads are fine, and i have bled the system. What else could cause this? Also, just recently, my ebrake light would come on when i come to a stop. To turn this off, i have to let the car roll a bit, and hit the brake again hard-at that point, it makes a sound like somehting "popped back out" and the brake light goes off. Is there something that could get stuck to cause this light to come on? Also, about the brake pedal going so far down....is this normal for these cars? Thanks.
Your brake rotors have probably been turned to their limits. Every time you get a brake job, they take material off the rotors to true them. As the material is taken of more and more the brake pedal will be lower even with new pads. Its probably time to replace them.
i just had brand new brakes all around done, brand new rotors, calipers, semi-metallic brake pads. I have SS Brakeline kit from Earl's coming in a few weeks.
I too notice the pedals on these cars goes down wayyy too far :/ nothing dangerous or anything but it's kind of annoying when I get into my girlfriend's stock 93 Civic CX hatchback (total chick car) and the thing brakes RIGHT NOW as soon as I put the foot on the brake :/
Ahh well...

I am considering the rotors now, becasue that hasnt been changed lately. But thats exactly what i mean, Garret....i get in my mom's 85 Grand Prix, and if i touch the brake pedal, the thing just grabs like there is no tomorrow. Right away, i slow down. What about the master cylinder? Could that be bad and cause this? Thanks for the responses.
to be honest i'm not quite sure about why these cars do that. I am getting stainless steel brake lines from EArl's, that's supposed to firm-up the pedal some more so hopefully that helps.
The car breaks pretty good (nothing great of course, but at least average-good) once you push the pedal and it "engages".... but it's annoying cuz a lot of extra footwork, and if you do city driving it'll drive you crazy.

Check for leaking lines to the brake booster or even the booster it's self. Are all of your flex lines new? The master cylinder could have a similar effect.

Thanks for the ideas...i havent checked the lines themselves, but i suspect the master cylinder....i'll have to go through it all.
