rear drum to disk conversion

Hi everyone. I am about to start working on my 82 Trans Am project car. So I'm sure you'll see me on here a lot. Anyway, the question I have is: what is the best plan of attack to change my rear drums over to disks? I currently have a 3.27 LSD drum rear. Would it be easier to find a whole rear end that already has the disks? or is there some way to easily retrofit disks on my current rear end? I know I will have to change the master cylinder, but do I also have to change the proportioning valve? TIA

it would be easier to get a new rear end. YOu could probalby find one for $200-300 maybe even less if you look hard enough. You will have to change the proportioning valve. I suggest getting the adjustible kind. They only cost about $50 and are easy to put in. It will help alot.

4th gen Fbodies with V8s and 6 speeds have 3.42 posi disk rears. they are wider though

Start first with the technical articles section. There is an article on putting LS1 brakes in a third gen. This issue has come up so many times that there is all kinds of information available.

AndyZ28 is working on this very thing.

I have seen some pics - and the stuff is great.
All 1LE type rear disc setup that bolts on to drum rear brake cars. very slick. He should be releasing the stuff soon - and it will be a COMPLETE kit. Trust me - this will be worth it.

I got one of the very first kits Andy put together, and it IS definitely worth it!! Every bit!!

My braking is awesome now, and it included everything I needed!

Highly recommended!! I posted on the Review Board right after I put them on, check it out!

Hope this helps!

BTW, I'm putting together an 83 T/A that I can road race/SCCA F-stock or F-Modified (can't decide which right now!) and these brakes should fit the bill nicely!
