Can't get rid of the shakes!

My car shakes and pulls to the right! I've had the front end aligned, the tires trued and balanced (twice). The only thing I can figure is that I have a bad tire, but I've had the two front ones switched and it still pulls to the right. I can't find anything unusual underneath. Any suggestions? It's getting worse.
I've checked my wheel bearings, they're good. My rotors are brand new and not warped. I'm going nuts! Help!

I've got a '91 with a steel D/S and I have one hell of a shimmy at 75 and higher. I'm thinking it's the shaft. Others have had this same problem. Just a thought.....

Hehe, well, that used to be my problem about a year ago, but I had a driveshaft built for it, so I've already ruled that out.

Thanks anyway.

Bad tie rod ends, idler arm, or anything else in the steering is my guess. They're supposed to check that stuff when they align it, but that doesn't mean they did.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I know it's not the idler arm because they replaced it when it was aligned. My next guess is the tie rods.

Strut gone bad? I broke a shock once on my old Chevy half ton truck and the thing went everywhere.

along that line, the bushing that holds the top of the strut can go bad and cause the car to wonder and shake.

I would borrow a set of tires and wheels from a friend and
see if the problem was still there.

Cool!

Thanks guys! I'll check out the struts and bushings. Ball joints too. I'll see if one of my buddies will let me borrow two wheels and tires for a few minutes too. I'm going to figure this thing out if I have to rip the whole front end off and rebuild it!

Me Too

I've got the same problem on my '91 rs with tubular a-arms w/non-greasable poly bushings, Eibach sport springs, KYB shocks, poly sway bushiings, new TT2s and new tires. I haven't changed an old (72k) center link which has some play and is my first suspect. What else should I look into?

Car: Formerly - 87 T/A, 87 Bird.
Had exact same problem with 98 blazer except it wanted to go towards the left (this was about a year ago) and we took it to get new tires and alignment at a tire place that sells Goodyear. Well that didn't fix it so we took it to a Firestone place and the guy said he'd look at it for free (we used to go there all the time but went to the Goodyear place for some reason) he found out the upper and lower ball joints were lookin really bad so they replaced them (under warranty) for free since the Chevy dealer down the road has them do some of their warranty work. Anyhow check those joints I guarantee that's the problem. Well it could be something else I suppose but that's what my prob was

My car had that problem and something crazy had happened to me. One of the bolts had come loose on my A-frame (can't think of the other name for it right now), which caused many a vibration while slowing/stopping. I basically had to slam on the brakes to keep from vibrating so hard. Eventually that bolt fell out in the middle of the road and I realized what it was. So make sure you have all your bolts in there.
