the wonderbar connnects the frame in the front, it can keep the crack everyone talks about forming around the steering box from occuring. It also helps stiffen things up.

Bill, get one, either a GM factory one or one of aftermarket pieces from Lon at Top Down Solutions or Global West.
Well worth it. Tightened my RS up a fair bit up front, I still need SFCs though.

I'd check a junkyard first - I got mine for $5.
Just call it a "radiator support" when the guy asks you what it is. If you call something a "wonder" whatever, you just doubled your price.

Only Irocs and WS-6 T/As and Firebirds IIRC. It bolts in right above the front sway bar. Just look down from above the radiator, and if you see 2 bars where the sway bar is located, it has one...pull it.

The GM Wonder Bar was installed on 1985-90 IROCs (w/16" rims). My version is powder-coated in a color resembling cast steel.

The wonderbars my 3rd gens and my friends 3rd gens use are all rescued bars from Junked IROCs and they work for us. Lon's bar might be stonger than stock I'd ask him if an aftermarket bar would make a difference vs stock.

I designed mine based on the GM version. It may be slightly stronger only for a couple of reasons. The gage of mat'l used on the mouting pads and tubing is slightly thicker on mine. Mine have more weld area. I also designed mine to trap less dirt and debris. The GM version has the formed lip facing up, which will trap more dirt, mud, etc. My version has that formed lip facing down instead. lastly, my version will have superior corrosion protection due to it being powder-coated. GM's is not. I ordered a new GM Wonder Bar (back 3 yrs ago when they were still available). The paint was chipped in a few places on the BRAND NEW part. I had the bar installed on my car for a little over two years. Even living in SoCal it has rust where the paint chipped. I realize my version won't compete price-wise with a used GM bar from a junkyard. That wasn't my intention. I designed it to fill the gap GM created when they discontinued theirs. On a final note; I must say my packaging is FAR superior to how I rec'd my GM bar. The dealer just zip-tied a tag with my address on it and shipped it along with my sway bars. That's it for protection, none. Ask those that have ordered one of mine if theirs rec'd ANY transit damage. I've worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at several different companies. Packaging fell under my responsibility at some of those jobs. I can guarantee my parts will pass a standardized UPS drop test. I'm sure the people that packed the Wonder Bar I ordered haven't even heard of such a test, let alone designed their product to survive it.

Hey Lonsal how much do you sell your wonder bar for? I want to pick one up and yours sounds pretty good. Thanks.

can't say. I've shipped 5 in a day, 8 in one week. It varies. I just have to keep an close eye on inventory now. Unfortunate part is I'm in the middle of some big projects and can't get back to the brace production yet.
