some traction for a beginner.....
what would be some worthwile parts to add to my Z28 to improve off the line traction?
the motor is a relatively mild 305, i have just added a 94 Z28 10 bolt rear end (posi/disc/3.23's)
i am also going to throw a TH350 in there soon too
i am going to be getting some sort of 17 inch rims for the car
the tires i have already are 275/40/ZR-17's (off a 2002 T/A)
so i'm trying to figure out my tire diameter
so i can figure out what gears i should upgrade to
so i can figure what converter i'll need
for now, what converter will i need??

Even though I don't like you, I will give you some advice. Whether you use it or not is up to you.
Don't use 40 seires tires for drag racing. You won't be able to keep them from spinning through 1st gear. Those tires are made for handling (cornering) purposes.

i kinda had that lurking in the back of my head
well, for all intensive purposes those will be for the street.......

SFCs and LCA relocation brackets, better tires. i'd consider a 3:73 gear set, 2600 vig converter. actually if i had bigger and better things in mind for down the road i'd leave it alone for now and put the jack towards the new engine.

Yep, the converter needs to be matched to the engine or it's going to perform/drive like crap. I agree with the 3.73s. That's about as big as you want to go for the street. They're terrible for highway driving especially on a TH350. If you know you're going to put a firebreather between the fenders later, get a big 3000-3500 stall 9.5" converter with multiple cluth lockup. That's about as good as it gets.

yeah, highway driving isnt much of a concern.....thats what the V6 RS is there for
i'm kinda limited on funds, so what are the best suspension upgrades to make to gain much needed traction?
to be honest the reason i am going with 17's is because i got $1000 worth of tires free from work with about a year of tread life left..........so i figue instead of spending $1000 on tires and 16 inch rims, i can spend $1000 on 17's
this is kinda a budget oriented buildup, i wanna see how much bang i can get for the buck
its staying a 305 for now (dont think i'm a little 305 bitchbaby) when i can afford a nicer car then it'll have a bigger badder engine

(i'm not looking for sub 13 seconds et's) just need to cleanse the town of rice

adjustable torque arm would help a lot (setting the proper pinion angle did wonders for my car) however since you said you will be switching to a th350 that idea is kind of out unless you want to lengthen a brand new torque arm. SFC's are a must if the car is going to see a lot of spirited driving, LCA relocators work great, again a must if the car is lowered. If your on a budget you could have the LCA's boxed and then fitted with poly bushings or spherical aluminum bushings (available from ground control). If you'r sticking with the 305 for now don't bother with the 3.73's (especially if you have the 700r4 in the car still) 3.42's or 3.55's would be a much better choice to keep the car in it's power band. With 3.73's in the car you'll blow the tires off the car in first and the motor will tach out way too fast. Hope this helps.

oh yeah by the way... My friend has an 86 iroc with a 305 tuned port motor, 700R4, flowmaster and a chip, with 3.73's in the car he was losing to my daily driver by about four cars. My daily driver is an integra. We've yet to race since the 3.42's went in but now he doesn't get spanked by my other friends 5.0 mustang (which beat him three out of three times before)
