is there any way of removing a spindle without damaging the balljoint boot(dustcover)? i would hate to damage my new balljoint dustcovers(replaced the balljoints about 2 months ago) i have to change the spindle since i bent it in an sucessful attempt to avoid an accident. my crome the IROC rim..... may it rest in peace ..... please help!!!

 

yeah loosen the nut untill the top of the nut is flush with the top of the stud, still has full thread engagement, about 1/4 or so gap between nut and spindle. hit it with a BFH, the cast spindle part, not the nut or stud. it'll pop loose, makes all kinds of noise, stops your heart for asecond while you figure out if you're ok or not. then finish removing the nut.

 

Yes, DO NOT HIT THE STUD!!! Unless you really feel like taking a die to it. I learned that one the hard way. (rolls eyes at self)

 

iv removed my spindles twice and didn't do any damage to by dust boots. they are pretty tuff!! and i used a spindle removal tool also, the tunning fork kind...

 

As long as you're carfeul, a balljoint separator (a.k.a. - pickle fork) will do the job and not damage the balljoint boot.

 

if the spindle is junk anyhow just whack the spindle where the stud goes through. Perpendicular to the stud

I am going to be changing my passenger side spindle tomorrow morning. I swerved to avoid hitting a dog on the street today & curbed my car causing my spingle to bend. I needed some info on how to replace it & make my job easier. anyone have pics?

well i dont think replacing my bent spindle is such a hard task im just afraid of that spring flying out. lol so i just wanted a visual of how the jack is positioned under & which bolts to loose first.

 

Jack your car up and put it on stands in the front as high as you can go. Take of the tire and so on off and put a jack under the control arm and use the jack to drop it down slowly. It night not let the spring out all the way but i Just kick them once the jack doesnt hold the control arm anymore. It will spring out when you hit it and fall out as they will be not too much pressure left in it if at all. If you have lowering springs they will fall out long before that
