Up Graded Brake System

I finally completed my brake up grade.
1) Stainles Steel brake hoses front and rear.
2) PF Z-Rated brake pads on all corners.
3) PBR calipers & rotors on rear.
Now a braking system that really works for me.

did the stainless steel brake lines help? which vendor did you go with?

I just rebuilt my brakes all the way around to stock specs, with semi-metallic raybesto's pads, and am looking to firmup pedal feel a little bit... then i'll be set.

I went with the Russell SS Brake Kit from Summit. I was going to use Earl, but they sent the wrong Kit. I did change all three hoses and it did firm up the Pedal. I am happy with the way it turned out. If you order from Summit on-line be care full with the P/N's.

Keep a close eye on those Russell brake lines. They are prone to breakage. Mine broke causing a brake failure and I have 3 other friends who've had their lines break as well. The Russell lines are junk.

If you lay the Russells and Earls brake hoses side-by-side, and compare them. The Earls lines are vastly superior.

In my opinion.

Thanx,ANDYZ28

The rear line broke on my car. I have two friends who had the rear line break as well. Yet another friend had a front line break.

What broke on the rear line????? If I remenber correctly that rear line was a bear to install. Did you and your friends install the rear line correctly???? I also can not understand what would cause this SS line to fail when the stock line is rubber. I think we have a bad install and not a failed part. Note! all failures within a small circle of friends who happened to install the same brand of brake hoses and experience the same failures. My opinion.

First off, my friends and I are not bunch of young kids tinkering with our first car. We are all very experienced at working on cars and have been doing so for quite some time. Second, the brake line can only go on one way. There's no way to do a "bad install". Third, I then went to a shop that specializes in custom steel braided lines to have new line made using the factory fittings. I showed them my broken Russell line and they commented that they see breakage with some of the aftermarket lines quite a bit. Mainly due to the use of brass fittings.

On that note, the part that broke on all 3 rear lines was the "T" fitting that mounts on the rear axle. Russell was using a brass fitting with a small nipple. Add to it the way they crimp their lines together and you get a part that breaks VERY easily. It doesn't take much. Their revised kits now use a steel fitting, but the design is identical. I'd still be VERY WARY about breakage.

Here's a link to yet another person, whom I have no association with, who had his rear line fail. Rather than the "T" fitting, he had the opposite end break. Note: He had the steel fitting fail.
Scroll to the bottom to see his line and read his opinion.
