Any got 17's w/275's and lowered car?

I've looked in the archives and nobody talks about what wheels they have when they lower their car. I am thinking about dropping the car between 1.5 to 2 inches.

I have 89 IROC w/ zr-1 wheels with the tire size above and I would like to know if anyone has lowered their car with similar size tires and how much is too much.

The stock springs make the car sit funny because I've installed light headers and ASCD SS fiberglass hood in front and two amps, subs, and moved battery to back. This really helped my traction though.

I hope the aftermarket springs I get don't react badly to the weight transfers I have made either. They should be ok since they are stiffer. I am thinking about getting the Jamex or Intrax because of the price and the ride heights they offer. The eibach kit is a little too much for my wallet.

Do you guys also know for sure which springs are progressive rate and which brands aren't. From what I read in the archives they all are.

Thanks guys, sorry for the long post.

I have the Eibach Pro Kit in my GTA and also have 4th gen spec 17x9 Mille Miglia wheels on my car with spacers in the front and a 4th gen rear axle. I have Kuhmo Ecsta 275/40/17s all the way around on my car.

I have taken a bit of weight off of my car with all of the emissions control and A/C stuff I removed, so the front is definately a bit lighter than what Eibach designed the spring kit to work with. With that being said, my car seems to sit just a tiny bit higher in the front than the rear.... Not really all that noticeable unless you really look at the car, but I can tell that the front needs to be maybe an 1/8 to a 1/4 of an inch lower to get the perfect look (in my opinion).

As for problems with rubbing and the like, I have 0 problems with rubbing anywhere during normal driving. The only time I get a rub is a tiny bit with the wheel turned to lock or very near lock and in reverse - usually while going down a hill in reverse with the steering turned all the way to lock. I will get a slight rub on the inside of the wheel wells on the front on one side and the rear on the other. The tire just rubs the plastic inner fender and that is it. Never had a rub anywhere else front or rear.

Virtually all of the aftermarket spring kits that are available will be variable rate for our cars - including the Eibach, Jamex, Intrax, and Hotchkiss kits. The only way to get linear springs is to go with a coil over setup or some kind of adjustable setup (Ground Control's adjustable kit comes to mind).

I have my car lowered about 2" with Eibachs and running 275/40/17's. I relocated the battery to the rear, pulled off all emmissions and a/c when I did the motor swap, and have a fiberglass SS hood to lighten the front of the car.The car car sits very nice and I don't have any rubbing issues at all.

Same here...

I have an Eibach Prokit with 17x9 ZR-1 wheels wrapped with 275/40R17 Kumho ECSTA Supras and the only tire rub I get is on the plastic fender liner in the front wheel wells with the wheels turned to full lock. Not a problem at all in my opinion. Absolutely no wheel rub in the back, but that's also because I'm running 2.25" adaptors from Skulte on all four wheels. Most people go for 2.25" on the front wheels and 2" in the back, explaining maybe why their rear wheels rub a little bit in extreme situations.

Oh and I forgot to mention earlier, go with progressive rate springs unless you want the car to ride like a skateboard. Eibach is slightly more expensive but definitely worth it. Go to www.shox.com They'll give you good price (around $220). At least $10 less the closest competitor. My car actually rode better with the Eiback springs that it did with the stockers. Jamex and Intrax are much lower quality - remember, you get what you pay for. With those springs, you're bound to lose ride height and quality before too long.

(EDIT: fixed typo and added some stuff)

Good point. My brother had a set of Intrax that lowered his car about 2". Looked really good for about a year or so,then the springs started to do more than settle. They car started riding softer after while and sat almost another full inch lower about a year after they were installed.

Check sig for wheels and tires. I have the sportlines which are lower than the pro kit and I have no rubbing at all.
