Stock spindle mod for 1LE brakes
1. Can someone confirm whether the early vs. late standard spindles are the same?
I've read lots of conflicting comments whether they are actually different. I have read posts stating the late models are thicker and I have also read posts that say there is no difference.
I have my spindles off now on my 87 camaro and want to mod them for 1LE brakes but if the late model spindles are better reinforced than I would rather get the late model spindles.
2. When drilling the holes for the mounting brackets do you drill completely through the spindle or only drill as deep as the existing holes?
I need a final answer on this topic so I can begin assembling my 1LE brakes.
Thanks!

I used spindles from a '91 RS when I did my swap on my '88, that way I could still drive my car. If you need your car, do that. Spindles are cheap. You'd be fine using your '87 spindles. There is a bit of a difference, but not enough to make that big a difference.
As you know, you only need to drill 2 sets of holes. One set is already drilled all the way through. You just have to make it bigger, right? This is the only pair of holes that need to be drilled all the way through. The other 2 holes only need to be drilled down far enough for proper thread engagement. Trial fit the bracket to the spindle, insert the bolt that will be going in the hole, and eyeball it for the correct depth.
Good luck!
