Springs rattle

I was looking for a rattle comming from the rear end of my car.
I noticed that with the suspension fully loaded the rear
springs rattle when I tap them with my hand.

The springs are TRW progressively wound springs.
The sound is the upper coil or two making contact.
The coils are very close together in this region.

Anyone have this problem ?

Any thoughts on perhaps using insulators (hose) or
trimming the length or should I seek out a straight
rate spring ?

In case anyone is interested....
I used some .5 inch ID hose and slipped it around the
top three coils. ( used for low pressure irrigation )

Seems better now...

OMG, I have had this rattle problem for a while, I could never pinpoint what it was, but I have the same coils in and I would bet my next paycheck this is what the problem is.. When I get the car in the air, I cannot find anyhting that would cause the noise, but once it is down and I go over a bump, there it is....

I will try this over the weekend and post my results...

thanks!!!!

No luck!!.. I covered the springs in rubber tubing. Still the rattle.. I only ever noticie it going over bumps. Not a problem accelorating, or braking, just when I hit bumps... I triple checked, no rub marks, nothing rattles when the car is up on the jackstands, only when the car is on the ground....

Anyone have any ideas?? the sound is on the driviers side in the rear and sounds like the spring is bouncing around...

Thanks

For anyone that cares, I finally found my problem.. Where the LCA connects to the axle, there was a 5 hundredths gap between the side of the mount and the side of the LCA. No matter how much I tightened the bolt I could not squeeze the gap, So I ended up putting in a small washer to close the gap.

Noise is gone!!!

Useful info, ttt
I've got a rattle but the car is in storage for a while. I hope this helps me, if it does I'll be sure to post a solution or problem area.

I have that very same rattle and mine is coming from the rear disc pads rattling inside the caliber, if I go over a bump I hear it, if I go over the same bump and apply brakes, no rattle. This is caused by me being a dumbass when replacing the rear pads and not using those rubber backing things for the pads or some kind of adhesive to keep the back of the pads against the caliber. If you have the PBR rear disc ('89 and later) you might want to check this also.

Mine is drum but I've noticed that my shoes need replacing. This could be the rattle but I've got more of a clunk (not exhaust) and it's going straight into the body. I checked the shocks a while back but I'm going to look again.

JPrvost. That is what my sound was like.. Sounded like 2 large panels hitting each other... I could feel it in the floorboards, etc...

I can't tell you how many times I had the shocks off, springs out, rebuilt rear drums, even replaced the shocks on the trunk (convertible) .....

I could have shot myself when I was under there last weekend, and grabbed the LCA and rocked it back and forth!! ( I had been pushing everything up an ddown) There it was in front of my face the whole time... Oh, well, I can replace the shocks and springs with my eyes shut now!!!!

It's been my mission in life to rid the car of all rattles. I installed 90+ square feet of b-quiet, new carpet, SFCs, STB, and removed the whole interior to check all bolts. Would you believe that one of the rear seat belt hold downs was loose! I'll check those LCAs.
