panhard trailing arms question
panhard trailing arms question
I am not a suspension guy so this question prob sounds dumb but here it goes.
I assume the panhard rod holds the rear axle in place from moving side to side and the trailing arms hold the rear axle from moving front to back. is this right. I want to get another panhard rod (an adjustable one) but am not quite sure how to adjust it. I assume while adjusting the panhard rod the axle will move left to right so basically you just want to have equall space between the tires and the rear 1/4 panels. if my thinking is right please let me know. alkso the panhard rod I want, I wouyld rather get one that is overkill then that way I should hopefully never have a problem with it in the future. anyone know who makes the biggest and best one?thanks for any input guys.

you are right on all assumtions.
as for which one, they are all pretty much the same, if you want the biggest and best, get one that is chromemoly, or if you want to spend the money alum. and for a street car, i would suggest poly bushings, but the best performing are spherical rod ends. but they will wear on you under street driving, and they are fairly noisy.

I work in a machine shop and I have actually thought about making a panhard rod out of 4340 chrome molly. that material may be pretty tough but if the rod ens are not then it just defeats the purpose of using chrome molly. maybe if I find some good rod ends then I will make one on my own at the shop, we'll see.

it isn't that the rod ends aren't tough, they are far from it, just that when driving the car every day, they will wear, read in a couple of years, and you will have to rebuild the rod end.
i bought the lakewoods rear control arms they came with poly bushing, got rid of most of my wheel hop..
as far as the panhard bar goes, i never bought one yet, however it should help alot and keep that rear end centered..
