I think the name of the post says it all.

How exactly does traction control work. I know it takes power from a slipping wheel and sends it to the gripping one.

I have had a few ideas of my own like it using cluthes(eletronicly controled) in the rear end or my applying the bakes on a slipping wheel. The last one seems unlikely because I think it would wear out the padds pretty quick.

basically it applies rear brakes and reduces throttle.

Yea mine uses sensors at all wheels, and works with the anti-lock brake system to apply braking to one of the wheels.
It also like 'Larry Burd' said pulls thottle out. The thottle cable passes through the ASR(anti skid reduction, Vette's version) to take control of the thottle. It also makes an 'annnnnnnnnnn' sound, and triggers a light on the panel.

However the newer Vette's have a more complex system ( new name ) than the early model C4's.

Thankfully there's a disable button on the dash!!!

the ASR on my 96 C4 is for anti SLIP regulation. The new vette's use "active handling" at all 4 corners. completely different technology.

They also have a "little black box" built into their computer system that'll get you into deep sh*t if ever caught doing something very offensive by a cop that is well equipped to extract the info.

Depends on the traction control system. The older cars used primarily the ABS system. While newer cars use the ABS in conjunction with the PCM. The PCM drops 1 or 2 cylinders (either spark or fuel, and in some cases both), until the wheel slippage has ended. And in the more exotic versions, like the late model Corvette and just about any other "throttle by wire car", the PCM takes over the throttle application.

The last 5 secs of what you were doing. Where talking throttle and brake pecentages, speed, all active handling imputs(pertaining to the attitude of the car before impact) etc..

Scary thing is that this is where the automotive world is heading. I cop will soon be able to pull you over and just plug into your car for evidence of speeding.

the way things are going, your car may notify the police you sped, and then you get a ticket in the mail

I was looking at the news and cops were taking pictures of the back of speeding cars.... To my knowledge speeding tickets are given to drivers not the owners of cars. Would hate to be a rent a car place if that weren't true.

Simply...They turn the owners into snitches!!!

As to the little black box telling a cop you were speeding it would need to know the following:

The speed of your car.
What road you were traveling on.

This could be accomplished with a GPS built into the car, and connected to the black box. The GPS tracks your location, compares your current speed to the registered speed of the road you are traveling on, then notifies the police if you are speeding. Its too complicated. Too expensive to impliment. Basically its unfeasable today.

Look up the keyword "palladin AND windows" in any search engine. Not THAT is some truely scary stuff.

the last 5 secs of what you were doing would be you slowing down and braking i dont see how that system would work unless it recoreded maybe the last 5 minutes of what you were doing, 5 secs seems to be pretty much useless unless you pull over immediately.

I agree i like our third gen's technology level~nice and simple compared to these new vehicles.

No doubt, as an avid open-source user, the whole idea of that makes me sick. we will really have to wait and see what happens with all of that technology, but if MS gets their way, it will mean major changes for the whole world of computing, and set back the status of individuals rights to the dark ages.

I'm staying right where I am as a Dual boot with Linux and WinXP. If palladin goes into effect then I'm dropping windows entirely, either that or I'll never move on to the next version of windows. I'm sure people will find a way to disable palladin in time though.

Palladin is a security layer for windows. If this layer goes into effect you no longer have control over the access privleges on your computer. Basically any application that uses palladin security will ONLY run on palladin secured computers.

You will have NO choice but to run palladin if the applications requires it. or you won't be able to use the application at all. MP3's would not be allowed to play in certain cases. Basically your computer will no longer be yours to do anything with. You won't be able to use certain types of hardware because they may be deemed insecure. Its a REALLY big infringment on our right to privacy.

Thats about as good as i can explain it. Its more detailed that that. Do a internet search for it. You'll come up with some interesting stuff.

Well, thats bullcrap. How much of a chance do you actually think there is of it being used. Is this so that they can track and control the software licenses or what? I tried searching a couple of search engines but it didnt seem to bring anything up on this topic.
