steering column swap, will it work?
recently i just had my stereo stolen and my steering column messed up pretty bad, it will jiggle all around and feels like its gunna fall off, i also had alot of problem with the wiring in there and i couldnt get the column disected enough to fix it so im just gunna put a new one in, what years and models will work? also how hard and time consuming is it to change? last thing i have a pretty bad vibration upfront sometimes could it be cause by something in the column? suspension looks good and the wheel berings are ok.

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Any thirdgen column will physically bolt-in, but there are some wiring changes made along the way regarding wipers, VATS and airbags. 82-83 wiper wiring is different than 84-up, VATS came in in 89(?), and then airbags in 91(?)...I'm not positive of the last two items. Another thing is to find one with delay wipers and/or cruise if your car is already equipped with them, or not.
Checking your other posts, I see you have an 85, so you will need to look for one from an 84-88 Camaro/Firebird.

Also, the Pontiac ones are different from the Chevorlet ones; the Camaros have separate turn signal contacts for the yellow TS lamps, but the Birds don't, they use the same bulbs for brakes and TS, so the TS switch and its harness are different. You can swap the wiring over easy enough, but if yours is hacked, you might be better off to get one as close as possible to your car.
Also, the manual cars have the little key release button, auto cars don't.
I have a 86 (I think) IROC column in my 83 Z28, bolted right in and pluged up, no problems; couldn't say about the year models of Birds for sure though.
