Anyone using Baer brakes in the rear?

I was looking on Thunder Racing's website and saw that they have the Baer rear brake set-up for $715. It's a touring set-up with PBR Single Piston calipers and 12" x .81" Rotors. I'm thinking this would be a nice replacement for my drums.

Anyone using this setup? If so what do you think of them and how much do new rotors come in at?

Also, does anyone know what thickness the late modl discs were that came with PBR calipers from the factory are?

Thanks for the comments.

Robert

I'm running them. My original rear calipers were getting kind of old at ~165k miles so I replaced them with the Baer stuff...

The dia is slightly more and they come with new mounting brackets for that reason. There was a different vane count than my OE rotors. The calipers were identical. It is a nice complete kit but IMO a bit pricey.

Can you buy the rotors and mounting plates seperate? I already have the calipers....but my rotors need to be replaced soon.

Don't know, but good luck getting a hold of anyone at Baer. Very slow to answer email and hard to get through on their tech line. Maybe someone like Thunderracing might have an answer.

Does anyone know the diameter and thickness of the stock 89 and later rotors? I'm wondering if these can be used instead of having to buy replacements from Baer?

I want to say off the top of my head stock 89+ PBR rotors were 11.6" and the Baer are 11.8" and the same thickness. It appeared the calipers are identical so the brackets were only to make up the small diff in diameter between the rotors.

In that case I see no problem with using the stock 89-later discs if they are only .1 of an inch different in radius.

Thanks for the help.

Got any pics of them installed yet?

Don't have any pics of them installed. The only real obvious diff are the braided lines.

i don't have the "baer" rear kit, however the pbr caliper is identical to the rear disc pbr caliper that came stock on my 91z.

they do have a slightly larger rotor that they use with the "touring" kit, however it isn't anything to notice. gm offers a performance upgraded cross drilled and slotted rotor that i've been using for awhile now that looks and works great. roughly 300 new for the left and right rotors and you won't need a bracket to align them.

baer will be coming out with a new kit in the new season that will include the newer two piece eradispeed rotor design for the rear to match those who have the two piece upfront. however the caliper will be the same. i've been fighting with them to get the bracket since this is the only part that isn't made yet. i would like to have 12" eradispeed rotors in the rear to match my 13's upfront. they don't claim to sell this bracket as of yet. again however, the size of the eradispeed rotor is suppose to be identical to that of a rear c4 vette with upgraded suspension. if one could get ahold of that bracket you could make the rear's 12" for less than 350 dollars.

braided lines are supposedly made by russel....i haven't recieved my kit but i plan to keep my earl's. you can purchase the braided line kit for all 4 of your disc brakes for just under 100 through summit.

if you have the rear discs i'd just get the gm rotors unless your using a 2 piece rotor upfront in which i would check out the vette setup for answers or wait until they make the bracket to adapt the eradispeed rotor available!

no sense in purchasing the same thing you already have if you have it.
