susp. so stiff it broke my windshield

my car has always rode hard and the other day I must have hit a bump just right and it made the car flex enough to crack my windshield.(im guessing anyway). the crack started under the black trim at the roof area and then cracked straight down. its growing on its own as I type this. There is no spider web on it either.

Um....Maybe it's just me but, if your car has enough flex to break your windshield, the your suspension isn't stiff. A stiff suspension would not let your car flex.

Sounds like you need subframe connectors and a strut tower brace.

Yea if the windsheild broke I dont really think its from a stiff suspension. My suspension is STUPID stiff and by that I mean STIFF! Like you go over a bump and BOOM your lower back is in pain. Its stupid stupid stiff and I never had any problems with windows or anything. If your suspension was stiff then the body wouldnt flex so the windsheild wouldnt be able to flex and break.

I've got a similar problem with my '89. I bought the front & rear stab. bars & bushings from a wrecked 1LE & put on my car along with new Bilstein struts & shocks. After that, the windshield started to have what looks like bubbles between the layers in the safety glass. They continued to spread, and now they are all over the lower left corner of the windshield- I'm going to have to replace it. My car had the windshield replaced before I got it & it was probably a poor installation. Also, I know that the bodies on these 3rd Gens are very limp- they really flex (some people even make jokes about it). I have added a wonder bar & a Kenny Brown strut tower brace. I'll probably put in subframe connectors & maybe a cage before I replace the windshield.

You guys are confusing the situation. A stiff suspension does not stiffen the body. That's why we all install sub-frame connectors on our third gens. In fact, the stiffer suspension may actually increase the body flex since the suspension is no longer absorbing the bumps, irregularities and etc...

Take a ride in a Cadillac over a bumpy road, then jump in your stiff suspensioned F-body and you'll get the idea loud and clear.

Cracks starting from an edge can often be caused by a tiny nick on the very edge of the glass.A friend of mine who works at autoglass mentioned something about using wet+dry to just take the sharp edge off a new windshield to stop this very thing happening.

oops I was talking more about stiff frame and what not. Cause if your have a stiff suspension and a stiff frame then nothing should go wrong. Like me I got a wonderbar, front strut tower bar, rear brace, subframe connectors, etc. And also full tubular suspension, coil overs, etc. The car is so stiff and like once peice the car doesnt flex or twist in anyway. But yea if your suspension is stiff and your frame is weak. Then yea I could understand the damage.
