brake trouble...options

Hey,
I was wondering. i got a real spongy pedal, and I noticed I have been leaking fluid (know because the fluid gets low). OK, Now I know that the bleed valve broke off when i was changing my pads in the rear (yes an 86 with a disc rear...beats me too). Maybe that's where the leak is from.

What i want to do is get:
Wildwood front brake kit, pg 152-n in jegs.
Wildwood calipers for the back.

Or should i just change my calipers?

Or should i have the master cylinder/diaphragm checked out. i already changed the ckeck valve and the one that goes between the PCV and vac line. So it wasn't that.

I was told to get new calipers. The wildwood 2 piston design.

I would just repair what you have, why spend money on race brakes if you drive on the street?

My 84 came with rear discs also and after installing new calipers, lines, booster, master cylinder, front rotors and pads, it stops great. My car sat for a long time so it needed more work than usual...again I would just fix what you have, you can buy new bleed screws.

Just so you know, that Wilwood kit is designed to be a "drag race only" brake package. It's not designed for street use.

I'd fix what you have.

Wildwood kits for the street

this is the wildwood kit for the street. Their front kits are for the street, and can be used on the strip. The Title says Disc brake kits for the street and strip.

maybe I'll jsut get new calipers, and master cylinder though.

Thanks

Those GM rear calipers are NOT cheap, not by a long shot. Last time I checked (12 years ago) the fronts were around $22, and the rears were $150.
just get the bleeder out and getthe Recall rebuild kit, you should be golden after that.

AutoZone carries remanufactured GM calipers and they're pretty cheap. I just picked up a of front PBR's for $34 each plus core charges.

Well, Summit may advertise it as a "Street/Strip" kit (mainly because they also include 1st and 2nd gens. on that list.), but I've talked with Wilwood regarding a 3rd gen. heavy duty/street brake kit that could be used for heavy street driving and occasional auto-x and they DID NOT recommend their kit for that type of use.

Wilwood does make a nice heavy duty/road race type kit for the 4th gens., but has never made a similar kit for the 3rd gens. You could piece together a Wilwood kit, but be prepared to spend some big $$$. They won't break up any of their kits, so basically to get the various components you'd want, you have to buy different complete kits.
