begger rims a problem

bigger rims a problem

i met a guy who wants to trade me my 15" iroc rims for 16" iroc rims, both 2 line style mine are 1989 and his are off an 88. i'm gonna have somebody look at them to see if they are straight and all iand i plan on putting yokohama's avs-100 245/40 wr16 on them.

my question is will they saway right over, or will they rub, or what should i know about.
also will it mess up the speedo i have 235/60 r15 ta radials on ther now.

no they are 15" iroc rims, i think 16" iroc rims would look rerally good, what do u guys think??

pretty sure all IROC rims are 16"

not sure about the 15", but the 16" require a different offset in the back, in fact the rims are marked 'front' & 'rear'. Make sure you are getting two fronts and two rears.

15 & 16 IROC wheels are the same with fronts and rears. Only difference is the size they look the same.

You're not going to run into any major problems. I went from 15's, to 16's with my 90 RS (17's soon). What really matters is the total size of the wheel with the tire on it. So you can have a bigger wheel, as long as you get the right tire, you'll stay very close to OEM size. So with the 15's you run 60 series, with the 16's you run 50 series, with 17's you run 45 series so on and so forth. But if you want to run 40 series tires on the 16's like your saying, then yes it can make your speedo inaacurate (as well as your odometer). A 50 series tire would be the better choice for staying near the OEM specs. But yes in 89 the base 15 inch IROC wheel was restyled to have the appearance of the optional 16 inch wheel (straight out of the tech data section of this website). I'm not sure about the 15's (never seen them personally), but I know the 16's were different front/rear, the fronts being +0mm offset and the rear being +16mm offset, and they are marked front and rear on the wheel. Another thing you might want to think about is your steering box. From what I understand, if your car came with 15" wheels there is a good chance you have the lower model steering box. With 16" wheels on a car with the steering box made for 15's you might experience rubbing on the inside of the wheelwells at full lock. Thats the problem I'm having with the 16's on my RS right now, it rubs at fill lock. I am solving it by replacing the steering box with the quick ratio box made for the cars with 16" wheels. Just something to think about when you hear it rubbing at full lock in the parking lot or something.

The IROC's have the better quick ratio steering box, even with the 15" IROC wheels.

ok thanks, cause i'm thinkin about also pholishing them and then painting the inner parts in red to match my cr. i saw this on a white iroc and it looked good, they are gold trimmed now(i think) and then puting 245/45wr15 yokohama avs-100 tires.

what do u guys think?

I wouldn't run 245/40 - 16 on those rims. I would stick with the stock 245/50 - 16. It might look a little strange with so lower profile tires. Also the speedometer would be incorrect a little bit.

If you had 235/60-15 tires on your previous wheels then to keep
the diameter the same I would run 255/50-16's. Both of these
tires have an overall diameter of 26 inches. I bought Kumho
ecsta 712's from tirerack in this size for about $400, shipped to
my door. I noticed no difference when switching to 16" wheels
except better appearance and handling.
