How long?
A couple of weeks ago, my car was in an accident in the first snow here. (Ran over a road sign.) Took it to the shop and the guy said I needed a drivers spindle and a passenger side ball joint. I know, weird. Too rich for my wallet for him to do it.
So, I did the spindle, and then we got slammed with snow again, so I haven't yet changed the ball joint. I've been driving it because it's my only mode of transportation. Car rides fine with the exception of the alignment being a tad off. I plan on doing the ball joint this weekend weather permitting and then taking it to get aligned(no garage). I just want to make sure I am in no immediate danger driving the car in its current state. Thanks!

If (and I mean IF, they mechanic could be wrong) the lower ball joint is in fact bad, I'd try to drive on it as little as possible.
Check it by jacking up by the control arm and first see if you can feel any play--up/down, side to side, in out, etc. If not, put a stiff bar between the floor and the tire and try to pry up on the wheel. If it moves, its most likely bad. I would change it once yout get the chance--cheap insurance. Just my 0.02c
