hotchkiss sfc fit

Instructions say I need 2 1/2" clearance between the Y-pipe and pinch weld. I definitely have less than that, but it looks like they will fit. I would have to have the Y-pipe cut and welded to get the extra inch the instructions call for, which I'm not willing to do. If they actually will fit in the space I have, whats the problem?
I haven't actually tried to stuff it in there yet 'cause I don't want to mess them up and not be able to return them. If you guy's think it will work, I'll try it. If not, any suggestions on what brand will fit with about 1 1/2" clearance?

if it's not actually touching, I would guess that the clearance the instructions want is for ease of installation purposes. after all, SFCs are basically just tubes or bars that provide additional support. it's not like electronics, which heat from the exhaust might cause a problem
