Making your own LCAs

I've got boxed aluminum stock for cheap and I need to know if anybody has thought about making there own LCAs with it or do you guys all use steel? I think there is a set of really expensive LCAs out there that are made of aluminum, Metco or something like that.
Anyways, even if you haven't made your own, could somebody tell me where I might be able to pick-up a set of bushings? Hopefully Spohn will have a source for me if not himself.

i believe i've saw aluminum ones too, but i'd use steel, if i were concerned about weight i'd consider CM.

Yes, I have thought about making my own LCA's but the aluminum is trickier to weld than steel. You can use regular bushings from spohn or somewhere as long as the hole for the bushings is the same size as stock.

Metco sells aluminum ones and can be had for like $270. I can get the stock for this aluminum for only $1/lb. I'm still not sure about the width but I'll check that when I get the chance. Pretty sure it'll work. Welding aluminum is definatly hard but that's why I've been practicing for the past month. You can't avoid welding aluminum and work on a race car, that's just impossible. Even when a lot of stuff is CM or carbon fiber, we still need aluminum welded. Besides, this stuff isn't too thin and our TIG welder is great. Anybody off hand know the allowable width with the stock bushings? Also, is it possible to make your own bushings from poly? I would even consider using nylon since I know that I can machine that easily. BTW, if I can get enough stock I'll be making as many pairs as possible. PM or e-mail me if you're interested. Price for the extra's is to offset my time in development. Looks like I've got at least enough for 4 sets so $140 is probably going to be the price. Might end up going right to straight aluminum rod and making it adjustable....I don't know yet until I do a little more research.
