ebrake cabling underneath car to the drum brakes

ok my ebrake cable is cut on the left rear wheel. i dont know how it happened, was like that when i bought the car. nice clean cut, looks like someone cut it with a scissor. could this mean there was something wrong with the parking brake on the left rear? anyway, what do i need to fix this cut cable? when i pull the ebrake lever it still locks up my right wheel but obviously not the left. do i need a whole new cable set from the ebrake handle to the drums? i didnt get a good look at the cable that comes out from the handle when the car was on the lift. how does the cable work 2 seperate sides? is there 2 cables from the start coming from the ebrake lever, or is it one cable that splits into two?

Sorry to hear that. Under your trans tunnel, you will find the e-brake mechanism which connects both e-brake cables to your pull handle inside the car. It will look similar to the one below. This is how both drums are activated by one lever. You will need to pull the affected drum off, get into the braking stuff, and take the cut end of your cable off. Go to the dealer and get a new one, shouldn't run you over $30, or get a used one and reinstall it. Then run it back up to the adjuster linkage in the trans tunnel. Adjust as necessary with the nut of the adjuster linkage in the tunnel.

Here's teh pic. Let us know if you have any problems. On a DIY hardness scale of 1-10, I give it a 3. Those drum brake springs are pretty stiff.

Here ya go, from the above post. My new cables for my disc rear ran $25 each by comparison. I can get you a used one or two if you need them, they're sitting in my driveway on a soon to be disc 3.42 drum rear. PM me if interested in them.

I tried to buy the center e-brake cable from Pep Boys. The moron behind the counter kept insisting that I needed to know what side it was for, the left or the right.

He even pulled it up on the screen and I stuck my finger right on the "CENTER PARKING BRAKE CABLE", and he still insisted that I know what side I needed.

The kid got his boss to come over, and asked him how I would be able to find out what side I needed! (Apparently this was the kid's attempt to make me look stupid.) So the boss turned to me, and as he opened his mouth, I told him that I needed the center brake cable, there's the part I needed on the screen, I didn't need any left or right side, so what was the problem with me getting the cable? The manager looked back at the moron and told him to "So give him the cable he wants!" Kid came back- "We don't have any, I can special order it, it'll be here in 3 weeks". I left, and got it from my local "real" parts store in a day.
