question about peformance gain with the addition of a STB??

I have a 91' camaro with the following
-poly components all around
-Bilstein shocks and struts
-Spohn SFC
-wonder bar

how much of a difference will the addition of a STB make?? Little or a lot??

You will not have any Performance Gains, but your Handling will improve.

id say go for it, i am going to get my sfc's installed most likely next week, and then i will install my wonderbar and the put on my stb..

the chassis should be alot better off than in stock form.

i figure any where in the front where the engine is could use extra support, so thats why i bought the stb and wonderbar.

Probably big enough to be noticeable. Your front end will feel more like one piece.

I would say that a STB would improve the feel a little, not a lot. Your SFC's would be considered a big improvement.

Probably not as big a difference as after the SFC install, however, still a big enough handling difference as to make it a worthwhile mod.

Incidentally, which brand are you thinking of getting?

One of the first upgrades I made was a Hothkis STB and the improvement was very noticeable. Second was Spohn Rear LCA's
& Pandard Bar again a improvement over the stock items. And finally Spohn SFC's and this brought everthing together, However it was the STB that got me thinking about tightening up the car.

Would a STB affect under/oversteer at all, like getting a bigger front sway bar?

NO, all the STB does is tightens up the front end and give more support between the strut towers.

YES, it removes the majority of understeer! How can you say that all it does it tighten up the front end, but gives no benefits?

What about tire wear? Will it help to decrease the amount of outer tire wear?

All I have to say is that my STB been on my car for over three years and my opinions are based facts. Not some theory from people who have no experience with this part installed. .
The benefits of the STB are well know, so why don;t you do a search on this subject.

DJP,

I don't particularly want to get involved in flaming here..all I can can say that in tight corners (esp. at low speed) a lot of understeer occured on my RS... Put my STB on, and most of that understeer at low and other speeds went away.

My opinion, that I think will be shared by most others with a STB....if you didn't get this benefit then you must be pretty tight elsewhere in your set up.

It's been noted that under extreme high-load cornering, that the tops of the strut towers move laterally, as much as 1/4 inch each. This plays havoc on your camber settings. The STB ties the towers toghether, and to the firewall, eliminating the flex.

Before you install your new STB, Take the car on an, off-ramp at speed, to really load the suspension. Then, go straight home and install your STB. Then take the car back on the same off-ramp, and notice the difference.

It profides a much better feel from the driver's seat.

I think the UK guy is right ... I just put an STB on my car, and despite my initial skepticism that a hunk of metal on the front (that doesn't even attach to any suspension mounting points) can "remove the majority of oversteer," my car handles like it's on rails! Any hint of understeer is now gone! I pulled almost 2 g's just backing out of my driveway!!! On my FWD Sentra SE-R, if I stiffen the front end, it understeers. On my Lightning when I added a bigger front sway bar, it understeered more. But it's amazing how on my crusty third gen that stiffening the front end can "remove the majority of oversteer."
