Traction got worse after suspesion upgrades?
I'm surprised that I hook up even less w/the instalation of Spohn SFCs, Lakewood LCAs, Panhard bar and Edlebrock Torque Arm.
The SFCs were installed w/the suspension loaded and everything went in pretty smooth. The ride feels good but my tires won't stick worth a damn! I even spin like crazy starting from second. I realize that the tires I have (BFGoodridge Radial TA)are not exactly very sticky, and I got 4.10 gears but I was expecting an improvement not the other way around. I had way less tire spin before the upgrade.
Can anyone had similar experience? I can really use some help on this.
Thanks in advance
Mike

that sounds about right.... try dropping the PSI on the tires... befor you had so much flex in the frame that you where not getting all the power to the wheels.... now that you are getting all the power to the wheels they aree going to spin more.... its time for new tires or just drop the PSI in the rear tires

Not only are you getting more power to wheels, it's happening quicker and 'shocking' the tires hard and they break loose. Radial T/A's are horrible for traction in my experience.

Thanks for the reassurance. I thought something went wrong w/the install.
That's kinda what I thought about the "more power to the wheels" thing too, but wasn't sure. I dropped the PSI to 25 and it helped, a little. I guess I'm off to researching tires.
Thanks again.

I have stock SW6 springs. They're in good shape. I don't think I need relocation brackets since my car isn't lowered, at least that's the conclusion I made from reading various posts.
The LSAs I got ARE a direct replacements so I don't see why geometry would be off.
Yeah, I had 4.10s before the suspension upgrades. The 4.10s helped when I had the 305. I had a fully ported & siamesed(2.5 inches) Edlebrock base and SLP runners with 2.5 inches of siamesing on each side. Ported plennum as well. I had a tottal of 7.5 inches of siamesing & porting. The 4.10s compensated for the loss of some bottom end TQ and I managed to squeeze a one time best 13.8 and consistent 13.9s. These times were with borrowed drag radials, of course.
I'm sure my gears will hurt my potential ETs w/my new combo, next time I go to the track. Time will tell.
I thinking about getting 555R Nittos but than I'm asking for a broken rear, since it's stock. I'm also considering a HSR or an LT1 intake when I might actually benefit from 4.10 gears.

after my suspension upgrades my traction is HORRIBLE. worse than stock. this is with a stock 350 tpi + 2.77's. i can spin the tires while going 45 in second on some pavement if get on it... that's scary
no matter what tires i get, i cannot get traction. the only things i did were replace the lca's, panhard, all poly bushings, new shocks + struts and lowering springs. good lord i now wish i had a four banger that couldn't spin the tires
. it's really annoying!!!

mystikkal_69: did u get an adjustable panhard bar, migh need to adjust it alittle to make sure the rear is centered.
also its a good idea when using lowering springs to get a set of relocation brackets. keeps the lca's at a good angle to keep traction.

yes i do have the hotckis adjustable panhard. how do you guys center it now? where or what to measure from?
thanks

Slight update;
I've been driving the car some and lowered the pressure to 25psi. It still spins pretty bad out of 1st but maybe the whole thing "settled" or something. I'm very happy w/the way the car feels now. There are times when it actually grabs for a second or two and than my neck snaps!
One thing I've noticed is before when I gave it some throtle the whole car sorta "engaged" or "gathered itself up". It's the best way I can explain it. Now it feels rock solid and the ride is actually smoother. Strangely my rear-mounted CD changer doesn't skip anymore, even over some rough bumps.
As far as tires I'm gonna get 555R Nittos. As far as all the numerous threads I've read through, it seems like the best compromise. I only drive this car in sunny weather and my bird gets no more than 4-5K a year. I'm interested in track times but since I spend most of the time on the street, I care more about walking all over some yo-yo, from light to light.

as far as sticky tires, the best I've had are either the Dunlop Sport 5000 or 9000, or go with BFG g-force KDWS.
