front coil spring install

1982 Camaro Z28, front spring replacement. Replacing front springs with NAPA repklacements.
I know that we discussed front coil spring installs many times but I'v never seen if installing springs with or without the engine in makes a difference. I can't seem to get enough weight down on the front end to pop the spring into the pocket. Please help?

using a floor jack to push up on the control arm to compress the spring would need the engine weight or a couple of friends. iused a spring compressor to get mine in.it took about3 inches of compression to get them in. its a pain isn't it?

use a floor jack under the control arm, once the car is on jack-stands. disconnect the ball joint, steering arm and sway bar. Then you can lower the jack and the spring comes out. This works because the weight of the engine will force the spring to collapse. If you don't have that weight (of the engine) you'll need to use a spring compressor to collapse the spring so it will fit into the pocket.

Used an interal (to the spring) compression to squeeze the spring down small enough it would fit. Wasn't much fun to manuver into position. Was like holding a bomb waiting for it to explode if the spring compressor slipped.
