How hard is it to replace rear drums?

How hard is it to replace rear drums?

Mine are rubbin VERY close to the metal. Just wondering if it would be easy enough to do myself, or cost effective to just take it somehwhere to have done? Thanks,

I would recommend a drum brake tool kit. Like a set of plyers with a hook on the end.

I perfer to do drums over disks. Dont have to wrestle with rusty bolts. Usually it takes me 5 minutes to do total once the car is up in the air.

Shoes cost 9.95, for lifetime shoes

If you've never done it the hardest part is getting the springs back on right. Just keep track of what goes where and you'll be fine.

Definitely get that tool, or one like it. Your knuckles will thank you.

Since you haven't done brakes before, one bit of advise for you.

Pull both drums off, but only take apart one side of the brakes at a time. This leaves you a perfect example on the other side of how things go together if you happen to encounter a problem.

i was going to say the exact same thing... i still do that, and i must have done 3rdgen drum rear brakes 8 times now...



also if the brake cyl looks wet, CHANGE IT NOW, before it blows and you almost hit somthing....... they're cheap anyway. (and if you do one side, do yoursef a favor and do the other)
