How can I impove my brakes?

Okay the brakes on my 82 t/a are terrible. The only way I can get a decent stop out of them is if I pump the pedal once slowly before I try stopping. What happens if I need to stop in an emergency? I've stomped on them before to see how the brakes would react and... they dont. I am looking to do a refresh on the entire front brake system including flex steel lines and a GM issue master cylinder (to start with) and want to know what types of improvements I can make (without spending a grand on an aftermarket system like wilwood, ssb, or baer). Im pretty sure all the hardware on the car is origional (I only have 45,000mi on the car) Can I install master cylinder/calipers/rotors/pads from a 92 trans am? Would there be any improvements over using the stock 82 components? Are the components from a 1LE thirdgen interchangeable? can I buy 1LE brake parts from like autozone or napa? and finally will the 1LE brakes fit under my stock 15" wheels? Thanks!

pretty sure you would need a 16" wheel for 1-le.

ssbc makes some nicely priced units and you can get the basic baer 2 piston sport system for as low as 700 without all the options.

if all your parts are working correctly the biggest parts i noticed were pads and braided lines. obviously a 2 piston or larger caliper is nice and the larger rotors definately help for leverage but they are more expensive and you will need to upsize in rim dimension.

do a search as alot of people have had luck adapting ls1 brakes and they are nice. again you would need larger rims but it might be cheaper in the end rather then purchasing gm replacement parts.

you can do the c4 brake upgrade....

it fits under stock 15" RS wheels... see pics here

do a search for c4 brake upgrade, there is alot of info, you might also PM 'alloy' about brakets and hubs.
