just wonderin what everyones thirdgen weighs, probably gonna very alot heres mine...

305tpi 5spd,hardtop emissions delte, ac delte, rear seats gone, spare tire and jack removed, rear shade removed. 3350 with me in it and a 1/4 tank of fuel

with everything back in minus the ac and emissions it weighs 3390 with me in it and about 1/4 tank of fuel.

i just put the ac back in cause i cant stand the heat so its probably gonna be like 3420 - 3430 now.

Last time at the track, my car weighed 3540 with a full tank, me in it, and stereo equipment. It may not seem like much, but I have taken out a lot of weight:

a/c 25lbs
spare & jack 30lbs
aluminum heads 50lbs
baer brakes 20 lbs
fiberglass hood 30lbs
fiberglass hatch 50lbs
aluminum ds 5lbs

I did add some weigh in too:
subframes and stb 25lbs
stereo 60lbs
12 bolt rear 60lbs

Car: 1982 Z28

3333 total:

939 lb front driver
940 lb front passenger
738 lb rear driver
716 lb rear passenger

This was measured using a Rebco 4-wheel plate scale instrument on a poured-concrete garage floor surface, without me in the car, 1/2 tank gas, spare tire and jack in place, partial interior (no back seat or headliner).

The riddle is where that extra 22 lb on the driver's rear wheel is coming from. Only guesses right now are the weights of the exhaust tailpipe (single outlet Spintech muffler) and the gas tank filler neck.

hmm.

so the diff between a gutted all out race car

and a full interior, heavy stereo system fully optioned vert is:

405 lbs.......

based on yours weighing 3000 and mine weighing 3405...

btw im only taking into account straight line accell and not the benifit of havinf less mass to turn....

now my car dynoed at 152hp.. (L03, i know...)

so lets pretend you have the same..
according to the Finding ET and MPH with Weight and Horsepower calc at http://www.fbody.com/calc.htm

you would run a 15.74
i would run a 16.42 (according to the calc.. really ive run 16.0 )

this is for the same hp..

now if i leave my weight in there...

i need 172hp in order to do a ET of 15.75........

so in my lil game, you gained roughly the accel equiv of 20hp at the cost of totally gutting your car

10.25 1/4 mile. 132mph traps speed

i never said it was accurate for anything except to compare to cars using the same formula.

just playin with numbers.........................

btw, same engine, mine would go 10.69 with a 127 trap speed (according to that calc)

edit: these times are without the drivers in the cars too...

lol i thought of that..

but then i would have had to figure out the weight of the servos and reciever, ect....

in anycase, i couldnt add the weight of the drivers because:

1. we probly dont weigh the same
2. its easier to compare.

I read that the verts didn't have any extra weight over the the normal cars since you don't have the 80+ pound glass, so the chassis stiffening parts & vert top offset the weight of the rear hatch glass.

Also, a glass t-top car weighs an extra 50 or so pounds, so add that to the 80+ pounds of the rear hatch and the 20 or so of the wraparound that I have and that is 150 extra pounds, give or take a few.

Whenever I looked under my 89 Vert, I'd always wonder if those things would actually stiffen up the car enough in a crash; they looked pretty weak. And they definitely dont weigh much looking at them.

So what does a full weight vert weigh? MrDude_1 is your car an auto, and have you done anything to lighten it up?

She's light, thats all I'm saying!

Nah, actually it weighed 3,278 with less than 1/4 tank, but that was before the 6-speed swap, exhaust swap, removed all emission crap, removed 20 lbs of not needed wiring (old alarm/stereo wiring from previous owner), and misc. mods.

I'll find out her new weight when I take it to the track in December. I'm figuring arround 3,100 or so with 1/4 tank.

Hang on a minute, the calc on f-body.com doesn't take into consideration transmission type, or more importantly, final drive ratio. Is there a calc out there that will?

nothing has been done to lighten the car, athough i did take the spare tire and jack out... but i added in a 2 amp stereo system, subwoofer, and replaced the plastic back window with glass... so it should weight the same as stock.

?????

Where are you guys getting your cars weight from ????

I stopped at a Truck stop a few weeks ago so I could see what the scales said about my ride.

---------> 1984 Berlinetta was 3600 pounds.

I was very surprised by this so I brought my 95 Z down there and gave the guy another $7.

---------> 1995 Z28 3700 pounds

Now I expect that the scale is off just a little, but probably close. The Berlinetta has a fiberglass hood and removed my AC system (for now) but added 8 speaker BOSE sound, subframe connectors, a T56 and MANY other parts over the years. The Z has also been modified from it's stock form. < EDIT > Both cars had a full tank and me in the car when weighed.

My question - are you getting on the scale at the track or somewhere else ???

I took mine to a shipping/receiving warehouse which has a trailer scale that I could fit my whole car on and it comes up with a digital readout. My Jeep Grand Cherokee weighed in at 4350lbs so 3205lbs for the IROC seems about right.
