Suspension cause problem with driveshaft?

For the rear suspension on my car, I have installed Eibach Pro-Kit springs, Spohn LCA relocation brackets, junkyard sway bar (my car didn't come with one), and IROC 16" wheels with 245/50/16 B.F. Goodrich tires. Everything else is stock.

I recently took my car to the transmission shop, and they pointed out that my driveshaft was pushed all the way into the transmission.

Has anyone else had this problem or is there something weird with my car? I needed my car back, so they sent the driveshaft to a shop and had it cut by an inch or two.

thats weird i have seem to have plenty of room where the ds goes into the tranny tail shaft.

i think that was the same space for my steel shaft also.

I see that you also have an adjustable torque arm, I would think that making the arm longer would pull the shaft out a bit (though I'm just guessing here; I'm no suspension expert). I took this pic back in June:

why is ur torque arm that far in the bushing? something is messed up with your rear end mounting positions or something, i dont remember my stock ta being that far in the bushing.

but maybe i am seeing things.

even when my stock torque arm was in i had some space between the ds yoke and tail shaft. its almost like you have shorter lower control arms which are brining the rear end forward or something like that.

if u can please post a pic of your rear end where the lower control arms mount.

Have you been rear ended? That doesn't look right at all.

I'll try and snap a good pic of my lower control arms and brackets tomorrow. As far as I know the car hasn't been rear ended.

Flyway, do you think that you could take some pics for me of the parts that you needed to mount your rear sway bar. My car never came with one either and I need to know all the parts that I will need. Some pictures showing the orientation of things would be very helpful too. Thanks a lot.

Just go to a junkyard. All the parts are obvious.

There's a bracket inside each wheel well that bolts to the inner wheel well; the center links hang from it. Take the brackets and the bolts.

Then take the center "exhaust-clamp-style" mounting brackets and bushings off of the axle.

That's it; you're done. Go home and bolt it on. Took me longer to explain then it would to do it- unless the end links are rusted up. In that case bring a hacksaw with you to cut through the junkyard end links, and drop $12 on a new set of Energy Suspension ones; I posted the part # a few times in the V6 forum, or search for it at http://www.energysuspension.com or http://www.summitracing.com - we take an end link with a 2 5/8 inch sleeve length.

HEY... regarding the original problem here - could the swapped-in-motor be using the wrong holes for the motor mounts? Maybe the axle is in the correct spot but the engine and trans are too far back towards the firewall... ? Is that possible?

The 350 was pretty much a direct replacement for the original engine, I used the same mounting holes and when swapping the engine I did not move the transmission back and forth.

I'll have those pics of the rear control arms as soon as I can.

bes217, if you start a new thread for that I'll post some pics there.

Here's one. My driveway is about a 20-degree incline.

something about that rear end doesn't look right to me.

the LCA brackets, should be basicly percidicular to the gound. i think that is where you problems is, those lower mounting holes are too far back, moving the axel foward, and shoving the driveshaft into the tranny.

I had a feeling it was a problem with the way my brackets were set up. Would this hurt traction or handling?

i don't think that is going to screw your traction/handling too much, the LCA angle looks good, but i sure would not want to drive around with my yoke that close ot the tail shaft of the tranny.that is asking for trouble.

I haven't looked at it since it was in the transmission shop, but I paid to have the driveshaft cut shorter, welded, and balanced so that shouldn't be a problem anymore.

yeah looks like the brackets were to far back and then welded, hey but at least you found the problem.

thats a shot of mine.

them being installed like that shouldnt hurt traction too bad.
