Alston vs Spohn SFC's?

I'm not asking which to buy. I got in on the Alston SFC GP from TDS, and they're on the way. However, someone mentioned that they are of completely different design than the Spohn ones and they can even be used TOGETHER.

1) Is this true?
2) Has anybody done it?
3) Would it make a difference?
4) Does each one have unique enough effects that using them together is even better?

Hope somebody can shed some light on this, Thanks.

From what I've seen and read....Alston's are better for overall chassis strength, while Spohn's are better for anti-twist and corner carving. Either one alone will do a great job of stiffening the car, but both together would be the ultimate in rigidity (short of a full cage.) Supposedly they can both be used with little to no interference (you might have to do a little trimming but nothing serious) and this is what I eventually plan to do. I decided to go with the Alston's first, mainly because of Lon's GP. They came in today incidentally, and I'll be getting them welded up next week sometime.

J, Good info. I'll definitely look into getting the Spohn's now, too. Anybody else have anything to add?

The Alstons had a shipping weight of 22lbs. That's for the SFC's, the box, and some greasable swaybar brackets that I also ordered. So figure right at 20 lbs.

I got the Alston's welded in yesterday and GOOD LORD what a difference!! They fit very well and run VERY tight to the floorpan. Ground clearance was barely affected (lost like 1/2") and I can't feel the body twist on hard shifts anymore. I highly recommend them, and Lon at TDS (he carries them) is great to do business with as well.

Cat? What's a cat???

I live in Alabama.....we don't have emissions inspections. My cat has been gone for like 4 years. I'm running Hedman shorty headers with a custom made 3" Y-pipe and the Alston's cleared it just fine. It was a very straightforward install....I didn't even have to unbolt the exhaust. The only issue was the trimming to the front mount brackets, but that was only because I have a 6-speed and the crossmember is about 3-4" farther rearward than the factory crossmember. If it hadn't been for the trimming it would have been a simple "line it up, put a stand under to hold it, weld it in" job.

ouch. my ears hurt! CAPS LOCK MEANS YOU ARE YELLING

anyway, i was planning on getting the alstons for my t-top iroc. although i will be running hooker 2210's (long tubes) with a dual side exit exhaust, so i may have some interferance with the sfc. but momar has them and is running 2210's and the way he has his exhaust routed is a little diff than what i want, but did not mess with his setup. he also did not loose any ground clearance, although thats because of the colectors on the 2210's. later i may add some sort of perimiter mount connector but not right now, the alstons are enough, unless you want to pull more than 1 g, then you may benifite from both sfc's.

hope that made sense.

thanks
anthony
