HELP!! No brakes, need help ASAP
Hi guys., So I just picked up an 84 Trans Am with 4-wheel discs. Great, right? Wrong. I have probably 75% of pads remaining on the front, 50% on the back. Rotors are all nice and smooth. Problem is, I have no pedal (goes alllll the way to the floor) and no brakes.
I have replaced the rear pass side caliper, no good. Did the prop vavle "mod" where I took out the spring and piston and put a cap on that. No good. We've bled and bled and bled, no good. No leaks anywhere, lines all appear to be in decent shape. Master cylinder appears to be working fine, but its the same one that is on my 87 Trans Am with drum rears. Could this be the problem? If not, what am I missing??? I'm becomming quite annoyed and desperately need this thing running to get to work! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

do you have the old style calipers in back(cast iron). If you do & you didnt adjust the parking brake the pad might not be up against the rotor.because the piston is not self-adjusting for pad wear.Thereby leaving a gap between your pads/rotors.try adjusting the parking brakes if you havent done that.Or better yet just replace them with the later style(aluminium)calipers.Thats what i did.........

Thans for the info. I replaced the pass side rear caliper because the parking brake thing was stuck on it, that helped a ton. Atleast I can stop the car now. It will serve the purpose untill I get some cash to totally upgrade the entire system.

At least replace the front hoses and calipers, total investment of under $75 for those. With the fronts doing most of the work, these need to be in good shape.

its not hard to remove, you just need to bleed the master cylinder, same as the wheels just have some one hold the pedal down and crack the lines going to it. Do that a couple of times, if it is an older MC or original there is a good chance its going south

Going along with 841LE said, you probably really want to read this message:
