drum rear to disc rear

Alright my friend is looking to get a bigger rear end so he will probably sell me his old rear with 3.73 gears cheap. I really want this rear end , but it is setup for disc brakes, and I have drums on my rear . What all would I have to do to make the disc's work? I'd appreciate any help I can get. thanks

Nothing, its a direct swap. Although you are getting the old style disc brakes, which arent the best. You may need to get a 4 wheel disc brake proportioning valve though for more stopping power, the drum setups didnt put a whole lot of pressure to the rear I dont think.

Oh so its a straight swap? I will probably just put it in and upgrade a little later. Thanks for the reply

actually its the other way around....drum brakes require more pressure than discs do....but ya you need to change the prop valve

dont believe everything you read on the internet.....go from a drum rear to a disc rear and crank up the pressure.....it will lock the rear brakes up

If I was to crank the press. on anything the brakes would lock up, disc or drum.

its not really what the pressure is thats the issue... its the ratio.

you dont want your backs to lock before the fronts..... but you want the backs to be as close as they can be before the fronts lock...

well put

the fluid pressure inside the slave cylinder in a drum brake is usually higher than the pressure required for a disc brake on the same wheel

Yes, but it makes it a lot more practical when you have an auto. Not really any point in spending time in fabbing something up.
