brake solution
hey, i need some help deciding what to do about brakes(mostly the rotors). i got a set of c5 2000 rims(the skinny ones) and i need to do sumthing about the brakes to make it all look good. i dont wanna spend an arm and a leg on like a baer system if i dont have to. are there any other alternatives that would let me get something that looks pretty nice and performs but wont drain my wallet? also im gonna grab a 4th gen rear pretty soon and im gonna get disc brakes on the back. i would like the front and back to match so this has to apply to the rear as well.

well, you want cheap, so that means the C5 and LS1 and 1LE swaps are up near the top of the list..
if you put a 4thgen disk rear in and then swapped the front to 4thgen brakes, you could run the eradispeed rotors....
the LS1 setup will give you the bigger rotor you're looking for.. and the eradi speed rotors give the look...

This kit would be a perfect match for my front setup, both in power and looks.
Here is a link to the thread on it.

I will be purchasing and installing this rear kit in the very near future. I have the cash in hand now, but am more waiting till I can determine some time off to install it (Probably late December- I'll have some other things to add to my order before then I'm sure). I will be purchasing it through Summit (they have the best price by far) $718.99 for kit w/ 2pc hat & SRP rotors- (Drilled, slotted and washed) Kit # WIL-140-6744D http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...44-d&x=16&y=13
This kit is completely bolt-on to a disc axle flange. A drum axle flange is easily modified (check in the third gen tech articles for this- Its very simple with a cutoff wheel and a drill bit.)
Parking brake cable can be bought through Lokar for $100
Brake lines will be replaced from the rear center flexhose (I have the standard Earls braided line from chassis to housing) From this point I will entirely replace the hardlines with new ones (available at any local auto parts store) then adapt them over to 4AN (with Earl's brake adapters. Then its 4AN braided lines to the calipers with the apropriate caliper fitting. (you can actually run hardlines directly into the calipers(because these are not floating calipers), however, this makes things a p.i.t.a. to remove the calipers for any servicing of the rear assembly. Short sections of braided lines make it much easier to twist the caliper out of the way for rotor servicing.)
When I do get everthing ordered and installed, I will have pics and list a detailed part # list right down to weld-on metal brakeline tabs.

The only thing I can add to Dean's post is that the 4th gen kit is supposed to be a completely bolt on kit for a 4h gen. No mods necessary. Note even e-brake cables. And I keep reading on TGO that if you put 4th gen rear disk brakes on a 3rd gen, you just use 3rd gen e-brake cables. I found these at napa online for around $20 each. Might be a cheaper way to go that lokar. But, I can't verify this info as I've not done the swap yet.
I also agree that a short length of flex hose would be best at the calipers even though they are a fixed mount caliper. Too easy to get in a hurry in the heat of battle and cross thread an expensive caliper. Good thinking Dean.

i do think the eradispeed rotors look good enough. so you guys are saying i should do a ls1 brake swap and then i can put on some eradispeed rotors and ill get the look i want for a good price? also can i get the front and the back looking the same? also i plan on a fourth gen rear so how does this come into play? sorry i dont know that much about brakes. im gussing i can fget it looking the same on the front and the back since the fourth gen rear will have the disc brakes on it and i can do the front swap and i can get the eradispeeed rotors for the front and the back. would i still have to change anything on the back discs to get the rear looking the same as the from if it didnt come from an ls1. anybody know anything about getting chrome calipers?
