Brake setup
Brake setup
I have a '90 RS with a carbed 350 in it currently pulling about 330HP. Within the next year I hope to be making at least 550HP. I am reconsidering my brake setup as I don't feel it is capable of performing as well as I'd like. I want my car to be an all around performer. I have the entire Spohn suspension setup, Eibach springs, 6-point roll cage, Moser 9" rear, and a freshly rebuilt HI-PO 700R4 racing unit.
Now, I was thinking about these Wilwood kits I saw in Summit. Would these two combined, accompanied by a new master cylinder and SS braided brake lines, work good for my goal? I have displayed the kit for a 12-bolt rear since the 9-inch is not displayed on the website. What do you think? Will this be good, or should I go another route?

Well the front kit isn't going to give you very much increased braking power. The rotors are 10.75 in diameter. That's only .25 up from stock. And, the diameter of the rotors is where the difference comes in. Longer lever arm (bigger rotor)=more braking leverage. It's that simple. These my look cool, but other than a little increased pressure on the pads from a fixed verses a floating caliper, you won't be gaining much at all. Just lightening your wallet.
There are many upgrades available for the front that are better performing for the money. The ultimate is the Spohn 13" Pro Series kit. It fits under stock 16" IROC wheels.

Spohn 13" Pro Kit... speaking of lightening my wallet@
That seems a little bit too expensive, it would cost me about double what I wanted to spend on the brake setup if I went with that. How about the 1LE brake setup? I take it the rears are fine?
I also check out Baer for a while, how about the Baer Sport for the fronts? 12" rotors, sounds like it will work. I found a kit for the F-body: http://www.fbodymotorsports.com/inc/...l?v=1&pid=1061 .
I figure I'd go with the sport over the better ones because I intend to switch to 15" wheels (Pro Star XP). I thank you for your help, any more advice or information and I am happy to hear it. Any more suggestions?

And FYI, you can buy the same type of 13" kit from Baer for $2375, an additional $780. And, FYI, the Baer kit doesn't fit under a 16" Iroc wheel. Which adds to the cost of the already high $2375 Baer kit by $1200 to $1500 for 17" wheels and tires. And if you are considering the C5 kit, add $1200 to $1500 for 17" wheels to the price of the C5 parts. So, not having to buy 17" wheels and tires if you already have 16"s makes the 13" kit pretty econimical.
So, at $1595, the Spohn kit is very well priced. I know, I'm the designer and builder of the kit.
It all comes down to how fast you want to go (or stop). Speed costs money.
Right, but I am switching to Pro Star XP's with 15 x 10 in the rear and 15 x 7 up front. Will the Spohn 13" kit fit under the Pro Star XP's? They are supposed to be designed with better brake clearance, but I don't know about that much.
I currently have a set of polished aluminum IROC wheels in 16 x 8. They will be for sale as soon as I get the Welds on.
Again, I appreciate your help, alloy, but I need a good brake setup that will work with these wheels. If the Spohn 13" kit will work, I guess I will go for it. If not, I need something as good as possible. Thanks.

If I had a Pro Star XP wheel here I'd be happy to try it on my car for you. But, my guess is the wilwood kit will not fit inside any 15" wheel.
