Lowering Springs Install

Would anyone possibly have some pictures showing step by step on how to install some lowering springs? I'm going to order some DropZone's for after winter, so some pictures would be really great. Thanks guys!

What isolators did you go with and where did you get them? I am using the stock ones and my springs rattle sooooooo bad. I am going to take them out to make sure that the isolators aren't shot. I know new ones are a lot thicker but i think that will be okay for my application. I have sportlines and everything just rattles so bad back there.

What do you mean by positioning? Ebmiller's pics pretty much show it all... just peek under your car to see anything else.

Pretty much here's what you need:

Make sure the upper end of the spring is fully seated in the upper spring seat and the lower end of the coil spring is between these 2 holes:

ebmiller88,

What rear isolators did you go with? How much taller are they than stock?

Oh yeah...sorry. I initially went with the new (thicker) ones but I switched back to the ones the car came with, the ones on the right below. The rear sat too high with the newer ones.

You didn't notice a sound difference did you. I am trying to keep my springs from rattling so bad and I thought a better and possibly thicker isolator would do the trick. Were those new GM isolators or energy suspension?

Nope...no difference. Both are GM isolators. The old ones are steel reinforced so they won't deform. You can find them on any 3rd gen. The new ones were all rubber.

I have suspension tecques springs in my 87 ta. they are coming out soon the roads are too rough around here {ns can} but they make off ramps so much fun. i will not waste any more money on lowering parts till the roads get better.

Where can I pick up a set of insulators. I need some bad as well as stock springs to replace my Dropzone's. The Dropzone's didn't fit in the control arms because they are too fat. Squeeky as all hell .

Junkyard, or if you can't find a set, send me a PM and I'll get you a set.

My car being a 92 can I assume I have the thicker isolator? If so, I can grab a set of the old style isolators from the boneyard to lower the rear just a bit? I recently put a set of Koni reds on the rear and they boosted it up about a half inch so this could get me back to normal height. Still higher than I like but could get me by for now.
What height difference did you notice between the two isolators?

No, you should still have the isolators pictured on the right in the photo I posted. The newer ones on the left are brand new Gm pieces that I suspect to be for the 4th gen cars. You really won't know until you get under there and look and see what you have. BTW, the original rear isolators on my '91 RS look just like those on the right in the pic.

what happens if you do not index the bottom of the front springs between those two holes. i cut my front springs and did not put them in with the bottom of the spring indexed between them. it feels great on dry roads but in the rain it feels squirly even going straight. could this be my problem?

This usually makes the front end sit way too high, around 1-2" higher than it should. This may be your problem, but if you haven't looked at your tie rods and the rest of the steering stuff yet, I would.

I'm glad you did. I would not have known to index the bottom of the front springs between those two holes.

yeah i was surprised how having the spring turned a half inch too far can raise the car 5 inches rather than lower it. but now it looks friggin killer.
