mine still suck After 3 hours or so of driving the rust that appears on the surface of the rotor is just starting to wear off, and I did the recall kit.

Mine still work perfectly, almost 3 years since I installed the kit.

Same here, have pretty much all the parts to do it, just haven't got around to it yet.

I bought reman calipers for the rear axle I pulled from an 84' berlinetta (those cars are junkyard jewels!! ) and it worked great for me in my 88 bird (which used to have the 3.42 open drum setup)... That was almost 2 years ago...

I would like to get a nice 86 9-bolt rear, but I don't wanna compromise the brakes.
Then go with the '89-up PBRs and be done with it.

The problem then would be the lack of availability of backing plates.

Sorry but what is this recall kit you guys are referring to and what comes with it? I just got a 9 bolt out of a 87 TA and it came with new calipers but they are the smaller cast iron type everybody says are junk and I never got any brake lines,parking or the metal/rubber ones that mount on top of the axel tubes.I'm trying to scrounge up parts and if these calipers are junk then I'ed like to find any upgrade parts while I'm at it. I need the brackets that the parking brake cable attaches to also.Thanks

Good luck finding those all by themselves. The dealer can't get them easily and I ended up getting another set of calipers just for those brackets. Like I said, the brakes from a '93-97 f-body will work with the correct backing plates and the whole setup, albeit used, can be found here for $150. Rebuilding the rear PBRs is a cake walk:

So what is the recall upgrade then? I'm upgrading my drum 3.08 posi to a 3.42 posi 10.5 disc, thats been rebuilt. What is the recall kit, and what's in it? Will I need it for my swap? I guess if I knew what it was I would be able to tell huh?....

Not to be an *** here, BUT...

"SEARCH" : "recall kit"

You'll find plenty of info. You'll need it for the 10.5 discs you will be installing. However, I'd just ditch those for a set of PBR brakes anyway. It's not worth the time to rebuild them, IMO.

I just got 2 calipers off Ebay which have those parts and one caliper was NEW, for around $60 for both..YAHOO!!

Well I want to buy one of you C4 front kits....I just bought the rear end all rebuilt for 350.00 so upgrading to the PBR's is kinda out of the cards right now. And thanks for the poke about doing a search, half the time I do a search it comes up pretty vague.....i got lazy this time won't happen again.

No problem, man.. No harm done. I haven't done it myself so I can't really give any advice on it. Others have had success with it so I figured their input would help more than mine. I understand the budget issues, new brakes aren't exactly a cheap option.
