Aluminum spare from '86 T/A fit over my '89 Formula rear brakes?

I have an aluminum spare out of an '86 Trans Am with the crosslace wheel option. .

Will it fit over the '89 WS6 disc brakes? I think I saw somewhere it will not work.

I got a flat one time and had my wife bring our '96 Z28 to where I was located because I didn't carry a spare. The spare from the '96 did not work and the inside lip was grinding on the caliper.

you should be able to use the spare from the 86 since its from a 3rd gen and not a 4th gen. remember on the 4th gens they had differnt backspacing on there wheels, thats why the one from the 96 was rubbing like that.

PBR rear brakes need a 15" spare.

makes sense my 88 had disk brakes but they were not the pbr's which came around in 89. my aluminum spare worked fine with those.

I disagree - I tried to take a standard (read:not a spare) 15" wheel of an 87 camaro to put on my 91z w/PBR and if I had bolted it up, the face of the brake would have been grinding against the rim. PBR's have been a PITA for me...

if u mesure the backspacing on the 87 wheel vs the 91 wheel, u will see clearly that the 87 wheel wont fit and thats why yours didnt work. the 91 z28's have a different back spacing on the front and rear wheels, so if u try and rotate them ull have problems. thats also why u see some people gettin i think its either 4 front rims or 4 rear rims so they can rotate the rims.

That's some good logic, but it's actually hitting a ridge inside the rim.... 15 inchers without that ridge would clear, but the ones I have are all the same design - so I was SOL...

(trying some quick ASCII art....)

People get 4 fronts.
I had 4 front GTA's on my 86.
I now have 4 front 16" Formula wheels on my 88.

thats it , i wasnt sure if it was the fronts or the rears that people got 4 of them so they can rotate the wheels.
