Making your own SFC's..... Anyone got plans for them?
Hey, I'm a broke high school student and I don't have any sub frame connectors...
Anyways, some kids at my school in welding class are looking for some projects to do, and I kinda suggested that they could make me some sfc's! They said they're definitely up for it, but I just need some dimensions to give them or something.
And if I really wanted to me and my dad could probably make these easily, but if these kids want to fab them for free for a grade then they can be my guest
(btw it'd be welding 3 students, so they have good quality welding skills, and heck I can even weld too, but I only took it for one year so what they hey)
so anyone have a diagram, sizes, and whatnot to build some, and what kind of tubing I'd need?
Thanks a million to anyone that can help! really!!

they are pretty easy to make, just some steal tubing (i think i used 1 3/8") and just measure once your under the car. cut the tubing, and weld it in place. i doubt anyone can give you exact dimensions. The students making the sfc should have the car to fab them up. i think it took me all of 4 hours todo, with a broken leg....not a hard job at all

What alot of guys here dont realize how easy it is to make your own SFC, and how cheap. I have access to a Fab shop where I used to work, so scrap steel is free for me. But you can go to your local steel supply yard and pick through their scrap,or bent tubing pile and get it for dirt cheap. The other day I bought a 1/4 thick piece of plate steel, 4ft. X4ft. for $10. And like ede said take some measurements, the basic idea is to tie the front sub frame to the rear. Knowing that, and having a little bit of imagination its as easy as burning out.

alright thanks, I was originally asking for plans so I wouldn't have to give them my car 'til they're ready to put them on, and so I wouldn't have to get under my car to actually measure them and whatnot... oh well hehe
(and the best bends, etc. and what size metal to use, routing, etc)
Anyways, does anyone have any clear pictures of installed sfc's? Either homemade of store bought....
I kinda want to see which part is best to connect to which..
and also, any advice on how I should route them if I plan on possibly doing dual exhaust in the future?
And finally.... should I do these sfc's after I swap out the rear axle from a z28, or can you still swap after the sfc's are in there?
thanks a million to anyone who can help me. Sorry for all the questions but I want to get this right

i made a duel SFC arrangement. used 2x1.5x.187 for the main rails and 2x1x.090 for the secondary rails and .187x3 flat stock for all the flat pieces, used it to make angles or channel too. cost me 30 dollars for all 3 pieces of steel, 20' long. enough to do 2 sets of SFCs.
