SLP: 3rd Gen Specific ZR1 Wheels...
I got an email today from SLP to let me know that they have 3rd Gen specific 17" x 8" ZR1-style wheels in silver finish or black finish for $699.99/set of 4 including the caps.

I agree. I actually called SLP and asked them if they would make a 17x11 in that wheel specific for our cars and they basically said they wouldn't do it. Also I am not to sure if their 17x8 wheel will clear C5 brakes? So, I am still debating on regular ZR1's or ZO6's and spacers or even one of Boyd's wheels. I seem to change my mind from one day to the next.

I just saw an ad with then in the new CHP.
I do think they should offer them in 17x9 or 17x9.5 also - the majority of thrid genners would go for a wider wheel and 275-40 tire over a 245-45 one.
They should clear the C4, C5, and Baer kits - the SS and ZR1 factory wheels do.
Still, its a step in the right direction.

WTF was SLP thinking when they decided to offer these wheels? My guess is that they picked the closest thing they could find that somebody else made and then are offering those wheels through their site. It just makes absolutely no sense to create a 17 x 8 wheel for our cars ... .. . so IF by chance they did 'create' that wheel then the creator should be tracked down and smeared with pumpkin pie and mustard.

I think it sucks too, but in SLP's defense, I think I know why they did what they did.
First, by making the wheel to fit a 3rdgen (front rims) with-out using spacers and still using stock 3rdgen length studs, they had to make the hub 2 inches closer to the inner fender well. By doing so, the inner side of the rim is probably REALLY closer to rubbing as is even though it's an 8 inch wheel. 3rgen offset with 9.5's will most definitly rub bad. They only way to compensate for that is to make the dish of wheel bigger (which they are already deeper compared to a 4thgen ZR-1 rim's dish). If the dish was any bigger than they made it, then they wouldn't be classified as ZR-1 "style" replica's, and they would have to classified as different wheels all together.
Second, as far as the back, same reason as above, just not as bad. They could have made a 9.5 inch rear wheel without rubbing using the same dish as the front, however, SLP probably wanted to offer the set in the same size all the way arround for tire rotation purposes (example: 4thgen SS wheels are 9.5's all the way arround that way you can rotate your 275/40's and get more tire life).
But yea, it sucks they are only 8's. I wouldn't buy them.
I will live with running spacers in the front and I will end up with a 4thgen Moser 12-bolt, that way I can run 17x11's out back with-out having to use rear spacers.
Just my $.02

8's???????????? Damn. thats skinny. Run spacers in front (polish those boys up of course) and toss in a 4th gen rear(most of us need disc brakes anyways).

even though i don't care for the zr1 rims on our cars, i feel that slp could have done a better job in marketing these things.

put me down for bitching...i know slp cant make everything and who knows they probably do make a lot more money off the narrower wheel (can sell more on top of the reasons listed above) but im not buying anything less than 10.5 for the rear and 9 up front...nothin less!!!
but as much as i want the 11" wide wheel i dont wanna run spacers anymore and i LOVE the dish of the 3rd gen ZR1's. i would never get the 4th gen wheels just because i konw id be missing the dish...

Re: SLP: 3rd Gen Specific ZR1 Wheels...
Here are some pics of my SLP ZR1's. I've had the ZR1's for 2 1/2 years and I think they look awesome on 3rd gens. Also I saw some questions about brake fitments, I can't speak for any other kits but I do know the Baer T4 front brake fits and the installation could not be easier. Note: I did have to get a spacer in order to get the center caps to fit and I had to have the weights moved from the inside of the wheel to the lip.

Its actually not that, they dont look like zr1 rims if you want zr1 rims they did make them in 17x8.5 collectors edition 17x9 17x9.5 and 17x11 the above just doesnt look right. 17x9 will clear no prob with a small spacer

17's to me are just awkward...
16's are too small and 18's are just right
(for me)
