i just want to double check here...

later PBR 3rdgen rear disc brakes are the same as the LT1 rear disc brakes right?

i mean identical, right down to the bracket that bolts to the rear end flanges right?

because i have 3.42 posi LT1 rear that i want to put in, but i got it from a 4thgen friend who put a 12bolt in....

so he of course kept the brake lines, calipers, brackets ect...

now i have another friend on the otherside of the state thats willing to give me the brakes from a junked 92 3rdgen, but i need to know for sure that it'll fit before i waste a day and 400 miles of gas and wear on my car for nothing.

Not sure if it helps at all, but I broke my LT1 rearend I had in my GTA and went to a '89 3.45 9bolt that had PBRs on it. They were junk so I put the PBRs off the LT1 rearend onto the 9bolt. They seem to work fine other than the fact that on the 9bolt one is facing the front of the car and on the other side one facing the rear of the car. I also noticed I had to use a washer and space my driver's side caliper out 1/8" or so. Weird, but it works. Just check to see everything clears and you should be fine!

I know this might not help you but I noticed that the 92 disc rear apperars to be the same, the only difference I noticed is that the 94 rear (I have in my car now) has a round weight of some sort hanging off of it that my 92 rear discs dident have. Im guessing its some type of vibration absorber.

PBR makes the brakes for a LOT of cars out there, including Corvette, LS1, 1LE, etc.... They make the aluminum front or rear calipers for our cars. The iron disc brake calipers are Moraine. Here's a pic of them when I did my rearend swap. Moraine:

Hmmm, that sounds weird. The '88 and earlier 9-bolt rear ends with the standard cast iron calipers used the opposing caliper design (driver's side toward rear of car, passenger side toward front of car). The '89 and up PBR 9-bolts had both calipers facing the rear of the car.

Do you have any pics you could post?

Maybe someone change the rear in his car before he got it?

That's not really the problem. He mentioned he installed an '89 PBR 9-bolt rearend. However, if the rear uses the opposing caliper design then something doesn't sound right since the PBR rearends had both both calipers installed so they point toward the rear of the car.

It kind of sounds like someone took a standard design 9-bolt rear and adapted the PBR calipers to it without changing the backing plates. That's why any pics would be helpful.

I'm also wondring about the 3:45 gears? Didn't the 9-bolts pretty much stop at 3:27?

If the calipers are opposed they are the cast iron moraines. If they are both facing the same way(rearward). They are alum(PBRs).You can switch from moraines to PBRs IF you change the backing plates with it as long as its 10 bolt(saginaw) to 10 bolt OR 9 bolt(borgwarner) to 9 bolt.10 bolt & 9 bolt(PBR type) backing plates are slightly different beacuse 9 bolts use a bearing retainer whereas 10 bolts use a c-clip.All other parts are interchange able.10 & 9 bolt moraine backing plates are completely different & NOT adaptable to PBR calipers.saginaw backing plates dont have a splash shield, but 9 borgs do,PBRs only(thats one way to tell them apart).Im pretty sure LT1 PBRs are a carry over from 3rd gens.2.73,3.08,3.23,3.42 are saginaw...2.77,3.23,3.45 are borgwarner ratios. The round disc on the PBR calipers is a weight that reduces vibrations/groaning noises when backing up.This is because the PBR is lighter that the moraine caliper.Hope this helped..
