help with frt coil overs
I`m trying to figure out what spring I`ll need for the front coil over conversion I have...The kit requires a 10 inch spring...So they sent me 200 pound springs. They really look like a harley spring, Small wire too. My car has over 1000 pounds on each front tire, because of it`s iron headed big block. Pro fab will exchange the springs with anything I need, but really can`t make a recomendation on what poundage I need, any idea`s??

First some info on your setup.
What will you do with the car. ( drag only, limited street, street-strip or all street )
On the springs you have what is the wire size and number of turns. (coils )
with this info and the post above then I can start to help.

my car is used as street/strip, mostly street and the coil over kit is from pro fab racing http://hstrial-vhouse.homestead.com/our_products.html the kit is about half way down, the wire size is about 9/16 dia maybe and I can compress it about 2 inches with my hand...It just feels weak. The conversion provides for ride adjustment, but I think the car is just gonna collapse the springs.
The reason I asked for wire size and number of turns is so I can calculate coil bind, travel and spring rate. To do this I need the wire size in thousands and the turns.
You are right 200lbs is to low for your car.
If you have 200lbs springs and 1000lbs on each front wheel the spring will compress 5" (200x5) On your springs the coil bind is about 4" ( need the info) Your 10" springs with the load will be 1" from coil bind and thats not enough down travel for a street driven car. Most third gens have about 2 1/2 down stroke and 3 1/2 up stroke.
A 275lbs spring rate spring will compress 3 5/8s and still have 2 3/8s before coil bind.
