need some suggestions for a "tunable" shock that will allow a decent amount of travel more so then normal......
currently looking into hal billet units. any other ideas? i really like the bilstein units but at 900 a piece that's a bit much for a shock.

If you need more strut travel, those strut mounts with the raised top that you have on your car right now will really help out. Do you know how many inches the tops were raised? My Hunter Motorsport mounts were raised 1" and should allow full strut travel with a 2 inch drop. I know Hunter also made a racing use only mount with a 2" raised top, and that would probably give you even more strut travel for a 3" drop. The second part you'll need to achieve full travel when dropped more than 3" (like you are) is a set of drop spindles. This will drop the car 2 inches (independant of your spring setup) and not affect the geometry of the front suspension meaning it wont affect strut travel. So with my set of Drop Spindles (going into my car soon as I mod em for C5 brakes) and my adjustable weight jack setup set for a 2 inch drop, the front will be dropped 4 inches and still accomidate full strut travel. The junk part is that I haven't figgured out how to achieve full rear shock travel when dropped this low.
If this was not the solution that you were looking for, then your next best bet is to get a set of custom length struts with custom valving. I haven't seen any of this type that are adjustable, but they can be made. On my track car I'm running a set of shortened Carerra struts with custom valving. I can drop the car 3 inches via spring (adjustable weight jacks) and still achieve full strut travel. This is with stock spindles and strut mounts that aren't raised.

if you don't need a shock that extend to normal lenght, you shoudl be able to get what you need from just about any of the high end shock manufactures, koni DA's, bilstein, carrera, ect. just get the right shock body with the valving you need.

yeah, the problem you might run into, is the extended lenght, verses compressed lenght.
there is always the option, of cutting off, and welding on a new lower shock mount.
