Whos deleted their PS?
I'm looking into getting a s10 manual gear box. I hear this is a direct swap correct?
If so how bad is turning at a stop and how do you like it?

there's a reason why my beater s10 has a big wheel in it. no power steering.
i'm used to it now, but i wouldn't want it for a daily driver with big tires.

I figured that would get asked. I am purchasing a second car this weekend (91 turbo laser) which will probably take over daily-driver duty.
My camaro is already not a fun car to drive...its carbed, gets horrible milage, and has no ac or any comforts for that matter.
Since I will not be driving the car nearly as much I plan on deleting the PS, running an electric WP...this way I have only the crank and alt.
I will probably end up running 15x4s on the front and maybe some 15x8 with some good size tires outback. So I will probably be selling my TTII's soon.
Basically the car is going to become a street/strip car. It will see street time but not tons of it.
Anyways that is why I plan on doing this.

MY-92-RS,
Did you get a s10 gear box or did you just remove the PS pump. I tried that...way to hard.
I don't mind to make it more uncomfortable to drive. I already hate driving it this won't make it much worse if any.

i didn't mean to put the idea down i was just curious as if your going to use it on the street at all is it really worth it? i absolutely hate cars without power steering so that's why i say that.
good luck with it, i'm sure someone will have an answer.

I installed a remanufactured S-10 gearbox used the camaro pitman arm on it. Had to get the front end realigned. I like it much tighter turning radius, with 245/50/16 on the front not to hard to steer. At speeds over 100mph the car is a lot easier to handle not so touchy :hail:

i removed mine a couple years ago. At first i had the 16 iroc rims on it, and it was horrible. I absolutely hated it. Now i run 15x4's up front with Vw tires and i hardly notice the extra effort. The one thing that REALLY sucks is that the s10 box is 6 1/2 turns lock to lock. Thats a lot of turning

I'm wanting to get a set of 4.5'' wide rims. However I cannot find polished TTII's in that size. I have 16x8'' polished TTII's and I'd like to find a set of 15x4.5'' TTII's for the front. Put some drag and use the other 2 TTII's for drag radials.
I have driven cars without PS and it isn't really that bad. Buddy of mine runs his 91 turbo laser without PS and its pretty hard to turn even with 205 series tires. Everyone is telling me a s10 gear box shouldn't be to bad at all.
Plus I want to get those 255/50/16s off the front of the car...They rub horribly. Plus I am getting ready to lower it so I think I'll get skinnies. I know the car will not handle as well but I never drive it hard in turns anyways. But If I settle for the polished 15x6s they tires up front would be small but big enough to handle decent.

 the big wheel in the s10 doesn't make it that hard to drive... it's just slow speeds in parking lots that are tricky.
i can't picture it with 16x8's like i'm planning on running.
i do like the feel of manual steering at speed, though.

I have it and I love it. Just run 225/55zr16 in the front instead of 245/50zr16
Really no difference on the freeway. Just avoid parallel parking.

i put a 91 s-10 non p/s box on my 83 camaro with a lincoln locker and i drive it on the street.i have had manual steering on several jeeps in the past in high school that had with 31 in. tire also(and manual brakes). but then i guess i am man enough to be able to turn the steering wheel....

I would think a fair amount you are eliminating the pump, hoses, brackets, and the manual gear box is smaller and lighter than the power box, also remember the engine is not wasting HP turning the pump. Good stuff
Ive allready eliminated the pump, hoses and brackets but still have the P/S Box. Was just wondering if the weight diff. is worth the hassel?

i've got one in my Z28. .. it was nearly a direct swap... the box interfered with the sway bar mount... no biggie since the sway bar was comoing out anyway. I like the S-10 box.. i'm still running 225-60-15's in the front.. and it doesn't bug me... although i'm a lil bigger and stronger than most people i know.
The only two times the manual steering ever gets noticed... in a parking lot.. and it's not even that bad, and if the tail end gets loose around 90 mph... it's a bit hard to chase the rear....

I went to manual s-10 box when I did the v6 to v8 swap.I run a 185/75R14 on the front 14x6 rims and 265/50R15 on the back on 15x8 rims,no sway bar.Its arm strong steering turning a corner but its acceptable for a straight line car.If you want light quick effortless road handling Id stick with P/S.

I use to run an S10 box. I hated it. I reinstalled my IROC box and again enjoy the car. The car is so much more fun to drive with the IROC box. If you are looking for straight-line stuff only then go for the S10 box. But, if you like cornering at all ... then never get rid of the power steering box. Heck, I went 11.6's@117mph with power steering installed. I'll never get rid of it again. It's a wonderful thing.

I think I will just get an extra belt and bypass the pump when I go to the track.
I have done some major belt routing changes so I want to get a standard rotation pump and run my belt that way. Then I could keep a short belt and bypass the PS when I wanted to.

Is there a way to simply reduce the effect of the power steering, kind of reduce it's efficiency. I dont want to loose it completely, I just want it to be a little harder to turn the wheel. if that makes sense
