Sound from rear driver side wheel

not relative to rpms. sort of a thud, not overly loud but loud enough to hear with the stereo off, not a click, progressivly getting louder over the last 3 weeks, not relitive to bumps in the road, what could it be? i cant find the source when i take the wheel off. i really dont wanna take it to a shop to diagnose or fix the problem. thanks
